Good Morning Everyone
Wow this is going to be a busy week!
I hope you are all ready to take part in activities related to Sports Day. Keep an eye on twitter and the school app for activities to take part in – I know how active you have been these past few weeks, so I think you will be great.
Also there is Burnside’s Got Talent. I am looking forward to watching your performances on twitter.
Primary 1 Yearbook
Miss Ferry had this great idea to create a little keepsake of our year in primary 1. I know we have a few Mr Men and Little Miss fans in our class so I thought we could use this as our theme. If you would like to take part, follow the instructions below.
- Decide what Mr or Little Miss you are going to be. It can reflect your interests/hobbies and does not need to be one from the stories.
- Take a photo posing as the Mr/Little Miss you have chosen.
- Send your photo and a note of your Mr/Little Miss to gw18burnsidephotos@glow.sch.uk by Thursday 18th June.
- Please use the subject line Room 1 Mrs Chan to make sure I don’t miss any.
I’ll pop them together in a virtual yearbook which will be uploaded to our school twitter page on Monday 22nd June. No names will be matched with photos. Only your Mr/Little Miss name will be used.
AND ……Here are this weeks suggested activities and as always only complete what suits you and your family.
Literacy Activities
Boys and girls, I think you are going to like this weeks activities. They are all about the story ‘Goldilocks and the 3 bears’, but with a difference! You all created amazing versions of this story: read this version – is it as good as yours?
Read this version by clicking on the link below:
Can you read some of the story with expression and then think of some advice for Goldilocks.
In the writing task, you are asked to think about consequences.
In the task below you can watch the traditional tale ‘Goldilocks and the 3 Bears’ or read it (if you have it at home) and think about words which are repeated.
Also try to read a story every day. The links to free stories to listen to and/or read can be found in the ‘Free Books’ tab.
If you wish to follow up a story with a discussion then the ‘Prompt cards’ can be used. They can be found in the reading booklet issued and are also available in the reading tab above.
- Revise phonemes ‘h ’ and ‘ w ’. Please make sure your child can correctly form theses letters.
- Continue to practise the common words. Use the tab above for ideas on ways of practising them. Also have ago at writing short sentences using the common words.
I have added another tab above called ‘Literacy Activities’, please take a look. There are a mixture of additional resources or you may want to give one of the ‘Talk for Writing’ tasks ago, instead of doing the tasks above.

The check in station will go up on Thursday this week, so please let me know what you have been up to.
Please continue to send in photos, I love seeing what you’ve all been up to. You can send in photos to the address below and I’ll post them on our blog in the ‘gallery’. Remember our blog is public so please don’t send photos that have children in them. Names will not be matched with photos. This email address will be used by several classes, so please use the subject line ‘Room 1 Mrs Chan’ in every message you send to make sure I don’t miss any.
