Last week of term

We did some ‘cooking’, we said we were “Making pie” and “Something spicy” that needed “Cooking in the oven for four minutes”.

We hydrated the soil in the polytunnel as it had dried up.

“We’re on a pirate ship, We’re the pirates”.

Mark Making

We have done some amazing drawings this week that have been very detailed and involved speaking about different emotions of the people in each drawing.

“We’re in our bear hunt house”.

We said the bear couldn’t see or catch us from our ‘hidden house’.

We used the new polytunnel for a number hunt, some of us could recognize the big numbers from 10-20.

Thank you to everyone who took part in our tattie guessing game and purchased bags, the total number in the bucket was 230.  Well done to the winner with the closest guess of 205.

We tasted our tatties at snack time and thought they were yummy. We then used some to print in paint to create some great pictures.

Following on from all our tattie

work this week Miss Hay read us a Supertato story.

“Look I found some berries”.

Miss Young  found a rose hip, she cut it open us to see the seeds and to smell.

The autumn coloured rice has been popular this week for scooping, filling and pouring.

We built a den, lots of us could squeeze into it.

We loved Mr Travins singing to us whilst we had our snack.

“This is the airplane,We’re going to Africa”.

We had our gym lesson outdoors again, we did lots of energetic play, games and used great imagination and skills with the balls and the hoops.

We’ve been busy at the block play area making “hay for the horse” and “A Castle”, we did great team work to problem solve and  build.

We baked some cupcakes to end the week and use up cupboard ingredients, we looked carefully at the scales to weigh each ingredient out in grams.

Dynamic Earth – Deep Sea Workshop

We had a visit today from Catriona from Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh, who did a Deep Sea Workshop with us.

We heard the story of Charlie who lived near the beach and how he was searching for a silver bracelet.

We looked at animations on the interactive board of rock pools and sea creatures. We took turns to put our hands into ‘Rock Pool Boxes’ to feel the contents and see if we could guess what it was.

Catriona showed us how some sea creatures blow bubbles and then we had fun catching bubbles from her big bubble machine.

Catriona told us about Charlie who lived by the sea
Feely, rock pool boxes
Trying to decide what’s inside
Playing a fishing game
Searching for the bracelet with our fishing rods
We all took turns with the magnetic fishing rods
A shark!
Looking at creatures that produce there own lights

We also had scents from the sea we could smell in little containers. One pupil said that the blue container made him feel calm – it was the scent of ‘Sea Breeze’. We all thought the green one was very stinky! – It smelt like rotten fish and seaweed.

We explored a big roll out mat of the sea floor, spotting different sea creatures and someone found the missing bracelet!

We all had great fun and remembered to say thank-you to Catriona before she left.

A beautiful calm morning at the beach

What a super morning we had at the beach. We found sea glass, shells and some nice stones to take back with us. We had some really good helpers that gathered up all the plastic rubbish and put it in a carrier bag to take with us and put in the bin when we got back to Nursery.  We saw a seal and a fish jumping in the water!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all the staff at the Whiteness Nursery x

We’ve enjoyed some Christmas activities today!

We all helped to decorate our tree, and make our Santa and Rudolf wall display.

We enjoyed making snowmen with the white sparkly playdough using loose parts for the eyes, arms and buttons. Lots of us liked playing in the water tray, and at the block play area. It’s been a busy day!
