Homegrown Tatties

Back in May we planted some Tattie seeds.

We’ve been checking on them to see if they were growing  and watering them over the months. Today we dug them and discovered loads of Tatties had grown, we gathered a whole bucket full!!

We thought we would do a ‘Guess how many Tatties are in the bucket’ game to be able to win a bag for free, this is available outside the nursery door for  50p a shot. We will then be bagging up the rest for you to purchase for £2 a bag, please let a staff member know if you would like a bag.

All money will go towards our Nursery fund for purchasing new resources for our environment.

They were all difference sizes, some were big and some were  really really tiny.

Sunflowers

Looking at the seeds

Today we were planting sunflower seeds together.

We filled up the pots with compost and made a hole with a stick then we popped in the seed.

Everyone has their own pot with their name on it.

We decided that the most sunny spot was the window sill.

We are excited to watch them grow.

Dynamic Earth – Deep Sea Workshop

We had a visit today from Catriona from Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh, who did a Deep Sea Workshop with us.

We heard the story of Charlie who lived near the beach and how he was searching for a silver bracelet.

We looked at animations on the interactive board of rock pools and sea creatures. We took turns to put our hands into ‘Rock Pool Boxes’ to feel the contents and see if we could guess what it was.

Catriona showed us how some sea creatures blow bubbles and then we had fun catching bubbles from her big bubble machine.

We also had scents from the sea we could smell in little containers. One pupil said that the blue container made him feel calm – it was the scent of ‘Sea Breeze’. We all thought the green one was very stinky! – It smelt like rotten fish and seaweed.

We explored a big roll out mat of the sea floor, spotting different sea creatures and someone found the missing bracelet!

We all had great fun and remembered to say thank-you to Catriona before she left.

Happy New Year Everyone. It was so good having everyone back in today. The children were very excited to tell us what they got from Santa. We had great fun in the nursery today, craft table , playing games, jigsaws, drawing with chalk and we went outside too.

We also introduced ‘serving yourself at snack and dinner’. The children enjoyed putting their own food on the plates and choosing how much food they wanted. There was good communication about passing plates of food and jugs of water. Great work everyone 🙂

Other children enjoyed making snow angels too. We enjoyed following the lines of different shapes and making our friends laugh too.

Eco Class of the week.

The finished product, they were all so proud of it.
Making our eco badge

Taking our time to create the badge and  doing it carefully.

The nursery and p6/7 won Eco Class of the week. We have been having daily checks by our eco committee to make sure our lights in the nursery have been switched off when we are not in the room. The paper also needs to be recycled properly in the recycling box and not in the bin. The committee has also been checking to make sure we have unplugged technology that we are not using.

We were then given the task to create a badge for the door to display for winning. The children have worked so hard on the badge and are very proud of the outcome.

We enjoyed taking a walk up Stromfirth Road today. The children done so well at standing in a line and following the people in front of them. Everyone done good listening and followed the instructions well when cars were passing by.

The children enjoyed watching the sheep be released into the fields and watching them run away. The children enjoyed running on the grass and saying ‘hello’ to a few nursery children who weren’t feeling well and were staying at home.
