“It’s treasure”.
Block Play
There was been lots of block play recently which has made the children do some great problem solving and team work, creating a variety of different models.
“Let’s make a big tower”.
Miss Hay took us in a long tube, we used it to put cars down, they went super fast into the basket!
We pretended we were at ‘Monster school’, we were great at following Miss Youngs instructions to gain us some stars, ours roars and stomps were very loud (and scary!!).
We had some fantastic costumes and face paint in Nursery for Halloween, even the teachers dressed up!
We listened and danced to some music and played some musical statues and bumps for Halloween.
We created some spiders using loose parts.
We used glue and straws to make some ‘Ghosts’.
The craft area has been very busy this week with lots of different materials, some spooky pictures and models have been created!
We were experimenting with the pipe to see how fast the water flowed down and if it would go into the bucket.
” We’re going to Italy”.
We discovered the grass and the leaves were frozen, We said it was because it was ‘Cold’ and ‘Icy’.
“We’re making Scooby Snacks, they have baking powder and secret ingredients in them”.
We helped prepare the fruit for snack and spoke about all the different types you can get and had a conversation about fractions as we cut them.
“We’re making a sunshine Island, like I seen on my holidays”.
We were very lucky to be donated this old laptop by a parent (Thank you!) after it was requested by a child, it spurred on lots of role play and we said we were ‘Doing jobs’, ‘Working in the shop’ and it even was made in a ‘Till’. We spoke lots about currency, the cost of items and what items you might find in a shop and the role of a shop keeper.
Happy holidays from everyone at Early Years, we hope you all have lots of fun!
We did some ‘cooking’, we said we were “Making pie” and “Something spicy” that needed “Cooking in the oven for four minutes”.
We hydrated the soil in the polytunnel as it had dried up.
Mark Making
We have done some amazing drawings this week that have been very detailed and involved speaking about different emotions of the people in each drawing.
“We’re in our bear hunt house”.
We said the bear couldn’t see or catch us from our ‘hidden house’.
We used the new polytunnel for a number hunt, some of us could recognize the big numbers from 10-20.
Thank you to everyone who took part in our tattie guessing game and purchased bags, the total number in the bucket was 230. Well done to the winner with the closest guess of 205.
We tasted our tatties at snack time and thought they were yummy. We then used some to print in paint to create some great pictures.
Following on from all our tattie
work this week Miss Hay read us a Supertato story.
Miss Young found a rose hip, she cut it open us to see the seeds and to smell.
The autumn coloured rice has been popular this week for scooping, filling and pouring.
We built a den, lots of us could squeeze into it.
We loved Mr Travins singing to us whilst we had our snack.
We had our gym lesson outdoors again, we did lots of energetic play, games and used great imagination and skills with the balls and the hoops.
We’ve been busy at the block play area making “hay for the horse” and “A Castle”, we did great team work to problem solve and build.
We baked some cupcakes to end the week and use up cupboard ingredients, we looked carefully at the scales to weigh each ingredient out in grams.
Back in May we planted some Tattie seeds.
We’ve been checking on them to see if they were growing and watering them over the months. Today we dug them and discovered loads of Tatties had grown, we gathered a whole bucket full!!
We thought we would do a ‘Guess how many Tatties are in the bucket’ game to be able to win a bag for free, this is available outside the nursery door for 50p a shot. We will then be bagging up the rest for you to purchase for £2 a bag, please let a staff member know if you would like a bag.
All money will go towards our Nursery fund for purchasing new resources for our environment.
They were all difference sizes, some were big and some were really really tiny.
We welcomed a new child this week who has settled in really well thanks to our current children being so kind and supportive! 🙂
We wrote some ‘Secret messages’ for our ‘Nursery Trow’ because he’s a bit cheeky and sneaks around our Nursery without us seeing.
We helped Miss Young bake some Gingerbread men to take home, we discovered when we checked the oven that they had escaped and we had
to go on a hunt to find them.
We ended up finding them all hiding in the library.
Miss Young then read us the full ‘Gingerbread Man’ story.
We’ve used the loose parts and playdough well this week to make some great imaginative creations.
We worked together to fill the container all the way to the top and said “Its full up”.
We’ve been adding lots of great creations to our Learning Stories.

We went on another gingerbread man hunt, this time we
found 11 of them running around in the gym hall!
Following on our interest in cars, Miss Young helped us to create a ‘Car wash’ for them as they were a bit mucky!
We found a ‘Secret passage’ through the trees and discovered we could follow it all the way through and get out at the other side.
The blocks outdoors have been used well this week to create various things such as ‘paths’ to balance on, A ‘puppy house’ & ‘puppy toys’.
We explored different ways to get the wood to balance and problem solved how to make it ‘higher’ and ‘lower’ and then if we could go ‘under’ it or’ over’ it.
We took the bikes to the multi-court and spoke about road safety, we were great at keeping ourselves safe and wearing the helmets.
We welcomed a new start this week and have all been very kind to help them settle in 🙂
We had a visit from Anne Marie who came and read us her stories about Peerie Oorlicks, she then helped us make our very own Peerie Oorlick with paper, felt and wool.
Please feel free to have a look at our floor book outside The Nursery door which The Children have lots of involvement in adding their voice and pictures each week.
We have also started a ‘Family’ display in our quiet room if you would like to contribute your Family photo you can email the picture to the main office for us to print off 📸.
We’ve had a busy and active few weeks in Early Years-
We’ve made playdough (We chose to mix blue and red together to make it purple), explored colour mixing with paint to make new colours, baked some healthy pancakes, practiced washing our own dishes after meals, found lots of bugs to look at in our bug viewer & went for a trip to the beach where we found lots of things including a jelly fish, mermaids purse, various stones and shells & crabs!
Whilst by the playground we spotted a frog hopping around, Miss Laurenson helped us to release it into our pond where we watched it leap and swim.
Messy play (Gloop, Foam and paint), building with blocks and loose parts and exploring nature making ‘food’ in the mud kitchen and finding and learning about different creatures has been some of our favorite things to do lately, We’ve been very lucky to have nice weather being out and about too.
We were great at climbing the monkey bars in the playground and helped one another to learn how to climb up and stay safe.
We picked some flowers in the playground and were super kind and gave them to Miss Young & Miss Hay.
We’ve loved being back in the playground doing
lots of climbing, balancing and problem solving.
We showed our new starts the pond area, we found some bugs and lots of slugs in the trees!
We decided to make them a home to live in before we left the playground again, we decided they needed grass, leaves, flowers & some stones.
