Primary 1

Literacy

  • some children have books with words to read. Ask your child to try and blend the sounds and read the words
  • They have cards with the characters from the ORT reading scheme. Ask your child to match them to their names.

Phonics

  • In the yellow book practice writing and drawing for  the ‘o’ sound. The children could stick in pictures or you can draw/write words for them or together. Feel free to draw for your child as they come up with ideas.
  • The song for the ‘g’ sound is also below.

  • use the cubes provided to complete the addition sums on the sheet

Primary 2

Literacy – spelling

  • Read and spell the words on the card
  • it is up to you how you want to help your child learn to spell these words.
  • There is a sheet with suggested ideas and a jotter for writing or drawing in.

Reading

  • Read the little words in the tin/bag. Practice these words regularly – once the children can read them fluently I shall remove them and replace them with new words. The children will have some  tricky words which they just need to read by sight(not sounding out phonetically) eg. there, my, 
  • They have a few little reading books in their folders. It would be great if they could read every night. Don’t just read them once, they could read them several times before handing in their folders next Monday. Talk about the stories together – favourite part, who did they like in the story etc.

Maths

  • Use the ‘counting on’ method to complete the addition sums. (hold the biggest number in their head and count on the other number)
  • Have a go at the Robot Addition game in the link below- try all the levels.
