Curriculum Overview: Term 1/2

Literacy and English

Pupils will:

  • develop their spelling and grammar using a range of strategies.
  • focus on personal experiences within their writing.
  • focus on tools for writing.
  • answer questions on what they have read.

Through GLOW (Term 2), pupils in P4 will:

  • practice keyboard and word processing skills.
  • learn to log on and save their work independently

 

Numeracy and Maths

Pupils will:

  • be able to order numbers within our number system.
  • be able to round to the nearest 10/100.
  • be able to add and subtract within 1000
  • be able to use knowledge of place value to partition a number.
  • be able to find and measure right angles.
  • be able to find properties of 2D and 3D shapes.
  • be able to tile and create tiling patterns.
  • be aware of symmetry and make symmetrical pictures and patterns.
  • be able to tell the time for appropriate age and stage.

 

 

Health and Wellbeing

Pupils will:

  • Be able to give examples of things that help our classroom to be happy and friendly.
  • Be able to give lots of ideas about what makes a good friend and also how to be a good friend.

 

 

Topic

Develop knowledge and understanding of:

  • The RNLI and it’s role in our community.
  • The world of work at sea.
  • Celebrate the 200th anniversary of the RNLI in Shetland.

Technologies

 

Pupils will develop a greater knowledge of using the computer to access files and save files independently. P3 and P4 will also be introduced to simple word processing and touch typing.

During term 2, P4 will be introduced to Glow.  They will be learning how to use the Teams platform to access and submit assignments and to develop the use of word processing skills.

Pupils will continue to use Digital Literacy to support learning in all curricular areas.

 

RME

Pupils will

  • Become aware of the six main religions in the world.
  • Be aware of religious stories from different religions.
  • Be aware of religious festivals celebrated around the world.
