Learning Experiences:

By the end of S4, pupils will have completed a wide range of outcomes in the following broad areas:

Administrative Practices– the aim of this Unit is to give learners an appreciation of administration in the workplace and to enable them to carry out a range of straightforward administrative tasks in the context of organising and supporting small-scale events (which may include small-scale meetings).

IT Solutions for Administrators–the aim of this Unit is to develop learners’ skills in IT and organising and processing simple information in administration-related contexts. Learners will use the basic functions of IT applications to create, edit and update business documents.

Communication in Administration–the aim of this Unit is to enable learners to use IT for gathering and sharing information with others in familiar administration-related contexts. Learners will develop a basic understanding of what constitutes a reliable source of information and an ability to use appropriate methods for gathering information. They will also be able to communicate information in ways showing a basic awareness of its context, audience and purpose.

Learners will develop the ability to organise, process and communicate information; the ability to organise and support small-scale events; and skills, qualities and attributes required of junior administrator.

Learners will sit unit assessments at either N4 or N5 level throughout S4 followed by an added-value unit at N4 and an in-school assignment at N5.

PERSONAL FINANCE

The Personal Finance Award at SCQF level 4 is jointly awarded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and theifsUniversity College. It equips candidates with skills to understand and manage money throughout their lives.

There are 2 units in this Award:

Money Management

This Unit focuses on managing your money.

  • it helps you to prepare to deal with bills and budgeting
  • you look at costs involved with borrowing money
  • you consider insurance and long term financial planning
  • you look at different ways of buying goods and how to compare different deals.

The skills you will gain in this Unit should make you better prepared to deal with everyday financial encounters.

The Principles Of Money

This Unit focuses on opportunities to explore basic financial encounters. It helps you gain a better understanding of what ‘money’ is and where it comes from. The Unit helps you to understand sources of income and how to store and access your money. It also helps you to understand how to use a budget and understand foreign exchange.

The Units are assessed online using a variety of questions including multiple-choice, Multiple Response, Matching, Gapfill, Drag and Drop, and Re-order.  You must achieve at least 50% to pass.
