Cooperative learning with P6/7

We have been working with P6/7 as part of our topic, Space. Their topic is space too.  On Wednesday the 3rd we started working with them. All the P6/7s came in to our classroom and we got put into groups. Then Miss Morrison explained what we were going to do. Each of the  groups had to make a poster about a planet. It had to be very colourful and have lots of information. One person from each group had to pick an envelope and inside it would tell  us which planet we were going to be researching. My group did the Sun. We each had a different role. There was 2 Head Researchers, 1 Head Illustrator and  1 Head Writer. We had to look in books for information first then after about 20 minutes we were allowed to look on computers. We didn’t get much done on the actual poster but it was good because we got together again on Monday and worked on our posters. Today before lunch P6/7 came through because we were going to show our posters to the class. We were allowed 5 minutes in our groups to decide who was going to present the poster.  My group The Sun went first. Our poster looked really good. After that, all the other groups went. All the posters looked really good! I really enjoyed working with P6/7.

First Week Back

On the 8th of January it was the Scalloway Fire Festival.  The Jarl Squad came to visit us. The costumes were green. They looked very good. They sang  the Up Helly Aa song and some other songs and then we got to go around the hall and try on their helmets and hold their axes and shields. We really enjoyed their visit. On Monday after lunch we got to go down to the hall with P6/7 to do Zumba.  We learned two routines. We will be  doing Zumba every Monday for 3 weeks. This morning we went on the bus to the Scalloway Swimming pool for swimming lessons. We got changed and then we all sat on the side. Mr McNiven our PE teacher took a few of us in the pool at a time and then we had to do some front crawl and back stroke. After that we all got in the pool and we got numbers. First the number ones did either 6 widths or 4 widths. Then the number twos did the same. We did a bit more of that then we swam underwater and then we went for a shower. We will be going again next week.

Fiddle

I have been playing fiddle for 4 months. I go to High level music. I have just got 3 new tunes. They are called: The Hurlocks Reel by Tom Anderson, The Rakes of Mallow and the Reel of  Tullochgorum. The hardest one is probably the Hurlocks reel because it is hard to get the timing right and the easiest one is the Reel of tullochgorum. I have two other tunes called the Stronsay wedding and the Queens 4 Mary’s. They are easy. I have pink rosin.

On 6th of December High level had a Xmas concert  at the Big kirk and everyone that gets lessons at high level went. There was over a 100 fiddlers. We played jingle bells, silent night and we wish you a merry Christmas. I also learnt Rudolph the red nosed reindeer but we didn’t play that at the concert. Ashleigh, Evan and Brooke were at the concert too playing their fiddles.

On Sunday I went to another concert it was in cunningsburgh. I didn’t know anyone there except Kirsten my fiddle teacher. We played our Christmas tunes.

The Play

On Thursday the 10th of December we did our Christmas play. We have been doing lots of rehearsals. It was called the 12 Days of Christmas. The story was about Mr Partridge’s Amazing Performing Troupe, Father Christmas, Mrs Christmas, Mo Christmas, Nasty Grimgrump, Mrs Grimgrump and Jo Grimgrump. There was lots of songs in the play.  There was also lots of characters. There was 12 lords, 11 ladies, 10 drummers, 9 pipers, 8 maids, 7 swans, 6 geese, 5 gold rings, 4 colley birds, 3 French hens, 2 turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree in Mr Partridge’s troupe. I was a maid in the play. The decorations were very good and so were all the costumes. Most of the play went very well except from the part when the CD broke and we had to get another one.

Our topic

Our topic this term is Shetland. Yesterday in Topic Miss Nicholson gave us each a map of shetland and we had to write down where all the places were. We found a lot of places. We went over this as a class to see if we were right. We were learning about Fair Isle knitting/patterns and Miss Nicholson took in lots of Fair Isle jumpers which we got to try on. (they were a bit big though) We also got to see a jumper board which is what people dry Fair Isle  jumpers on to keep their shape. After that we got to design our own jumpers and we got to listen to Shetland music whilst we did this.

Hundred Word Challenge

I was at fireworks night. There was a huge bonfire and lots and lots of fireworks. They were very  good and they were all different colours like green and blue and gold. But there was no red ones. Suddenly… Right when I thought the fireworks were going to end a huge huge huge red one zoomed into the air.  It was bigger and more colourful then the other fireworks. This one went higher and was faster. The firework stayed in the air much much longer then the rest of the fireworks did. Then I thought… This firework must be magic!

Last day of term

Today was the last day of term. We watched Newsround and we did reading and then we did a quiz. The quiz was about lots of things. Some of the questions were: where is your iris? Or what is the Olympic sport spear throwing called? The team that got the most questions right got two dojo points each. After break we’re going to watch Hercules as this is a legend we looked at in topic and them after lunch we’re doing learning logs and then golden time.

Friday 2nd of October

We did Newsround in the morning then we had art. We drew mythological creatures like Medusa and unicorns in Art. After break we did reading. My group read a book called William and the mouse. It was about a boy called William and his friend Hamid who had a pet mouse. We did our spelling test after reading. Before lunch we had Maths. We were doing subtraction. Some of us did a really hard sum. Then we had lunch. It was fish and chips with strawberry crumble. After lunch we did learning logs and some people finished off work. Then it was Golden Time. Some people made phones with paper cups and string. They actually worked!

Art, Music and P.E

We had Art with Mrs Hoseason on Thursday. First we were looking at other people’s  work from different schools. Then we were doing Mind Maps about Myths and Legends because Mrs Hoseason wanted to see what we knew. Our Mind Maps had to be very colourful and exciting. I did a lot on my one and I think it was quite good. We also had Music with Mr Bennett on Thursday. We sang a song  and then we played Categories.  Categories is a game. I like playing Categories. After that Mr Bennett let us get the xylophones out. We played One Man went to Mow on the xylophones and then Merrily We Roll Along. On Monday we had PE with Mr McNiven. We were using bats and balls and we had to try and bounce the balls on the bats.

Ruby Duncan’s imaginative story

The Toilet Door

We get on  the plane and go to our seats. It is very noisy because a baby is crying. I sit down in my seat. “Can I go to the toilet Mam before the plane takes off?” I ask Mam. “Yes” says Mam. So I walk up to the bathroom. I notice the door is sparkling and shining, flashing red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. I look around. No-one else seemed to notice it. I ask a lady sitting in one of the back seats. “Why is that door shining?” I ask. “It’s not shining! Don’t be silly!” Laughs the lady. Hmm. So it’s only me that can see it. I wonder about opening the door. I pull the handle. No it’s locked. But I see a gold glittery key lying on the ground. I pick it up and unlock the door. Just as I enter the bathroom I notice something. The toilet has grown eyes, a mouth, a nose and arms! I’m scared. Suddenly the toilet stretches out his arms. He pulls me into the toilet head first. I taste dirt. I hear air whooshing past. I feel terrified. I see green and blue and white. I smell different things. Suddenly there’s a huge BANG. I look around. There is dirt everywhere and it’s damp and it smells weird. I figure out I’m in the drain. I hear a little tapping noise. A yellow minion wearing dungarees stands next to me. “Ello!” Says the minion. “I Bob! Me Minion!” He squeaks. “I stuck! I stuck!” He yells. Then I see a huge black shadow approaching… “Bob hide!” I hiss. Bob runs behind a rock. The shadow is growing bigger. And bigger. AND BIGGER! I scream as I see what’s making the shadow. An old lady with white hair, golden glasses, wearing a knitted pink scarf and a red cardigan and a black skirt. I gasp. She is holding a tray of brownies which have a sign on them saying DO NOT EAT. “Would you like a brownie?” Asked the old lady. I wasn’t sure if I should eat one. They looked so good but they said DO NOT EAT on them… I took one. I tasted it. It was delicious. BANG. The lady was gone. Oh no… I think. BANG. I’m starting to shrink! I look at my hands. They’ve turned yellow! I’ve turned into a minion. “Bob!” I shout. “Look! I’m a minion!” Bob comes running towards me. “I know how to escape!” Yells Bob. He shows me a ladder going up out of the drain. The ladder is very tall and rusty but me and Bob climb up. But just as we’re nearly at the top… Bob slips! I catch him though and we escape out of the drain. We get on to the street. I spot a plane flying overhead. It must be the plane I was on! “We have to hurry Bob!” I say.  But Bob has already run into a huge building. “Bob wait!” I shout. But he’d already run into the building. I wait for about ten minutes. People are starting to stare at me and they say “Oh look a minion!”. Just then Bob appeared again. He was holding two jet packs. We put them on. And we zoomed up to the plane. We went in. My parents didn’t even notice I’d gone. I had turned back into a human again! “Who’s this minion?” Asked Mam. “My pet Bob” I said. “OK” said Mam.

The end.
