Art, Music and P.E

We had Art with Mrs Hoseason on Thursday. First we were looking at other people’s  work from different schools. Then we were doing Mind Maps about Myths and Legends because Mrs Hoseason wanted to see what we knew. Our Mind Maps had to be very colourful and exciting. I did a lot on my one and I think it was quite good. We also had Music with Mr Bennett on Thursday. We sang a song  and then we played Categories.  Categories is a game. I like playing Categories. After that Mr Bennett let us get the xylophones out. We played One Man went to Mow on the xylophones and then Merrily We Roll Along. On Monday we had PE with Mr McNiven. We were using bats and balls and we had to try and bounce the balls on the bats.

Roald Dahl Virtually Live

We took part in Roald Dahl’s Virtually Live programme this afternoon. Primary 6 and 7 came through to our classroom to watch it with us. We cleared the tables away when Miss Nicholson got it up on the whiteboard, we listened to part of ‘The Twits’ when we were waiting for the live programme to start. We counted down from 10 when the numbers came up on the whiteboard. We learned the different steps as to how the book is made, we listened to the man who was Roald Dahl’s official biographer answer questions about Roald Dahl and we learned how to draw Mr Twit. Here is a few of our quick sketches:

Miss Nicholson’s Accordion

Miss Nicholson took in her accordion for us to see today. She let us have a go and even played a couple of tunes for us. We really enjoyed this and clapped for her. Some of us had never seen one before so we were excited to have a go ourselves. We asked to have another shot at golden time and primary 6 even came to see what the noise was about and had a go. We know where the ‘C’ button is on the bass as it feels funny. The accordion can make funny noises and can be very loud!

Teagan’s Imaginative story

We had to write a story about a secret door, this is my story.

The secret woods

One day three kids Jack, Katy and Rose are brother and sister. Katy and Rose are twins and they went exploring in the woods one day. In the woods they found a magic door in a tree they tried opening it but it was locked. Later that day the kids found a key under the welcome mat, the welcome mat is at the door at door of the house. They thought hard of what it was for but then they remembered it might be for the door in the tree. Later that night Jack, Katy and Rose sneaked out of the house and went to the woods with the key and put it in the key hole to see if it would fit. It did then it turned all by it’s self like magic and then it sucked the kids in the door.  When they opened their eyes they were standing in a magic world. They saw little animals walking around on two legs and SPEAKING! It was like a magic animal land. The next day the kids said goodbye to there new friends and they want to go exploring more in the woods and find more doors.

Myths and Legends around the world

Today we got into groups of 3 and 4 to begin researching different myths and legends around the world. We are gong to present our findings to the rest of the class next week. Each group was given a different country to look at and we have to find at least 3 different myths/legends that belong to that country. We decided in our groups how we were going to present our findings, most of the groups decided to make Power-points but there are a few posters being made. We have been looking through books and searching the internet to find our information. We discussed copyright and now know how to narrow our search on Google images to know which photos we can use and which ones we cannot.

Story Tellers

We have been lucky to have had storytellers come to visit us.

Renita Bayer, an American lady came in to tell us different stories on the 9th of September. Primary 6-7 joined us too. We had lots of fun! She had us join in: standing up, sitting down, singing and doing different actions. She had a nice loud voice so everyone could hear and used lots of expression. She put a lot of effort into the stories and even though she only had 45 minutes with us she told us lots of different ones! We would love to have her again!

On the 15th of September we had a different kind of storytelling. This time it was in dialect! Brenda and Laureen came to read us a Shetland dialect book called ‘Mystery at da Lairds Haa’ We really enjoyed this too! They were really nice and gave us all a book each to take home! They showed us a website that we could go on and listen to the story and there were games too. We wished they could have stayed longer and read more but we have been enjoying reading the book ourselves.
