After we visited the Cabin Museum on our school trip we went to the Burravoe Croft. We got to see the new chicks, the piglets, the hens and feed the caddy lamb. We had a great time playing rounders and hide and seek. Thank-you so much to Barbara for letting us visit and showing us around the croft, we had a super day.

The Colosseum

IMG_1375

Scott was responsible for Wonder World Wednesday last week. He had to prepare a presentation at home about one of the wonders of the world. He created a fantastic poster containing lots of interesting information about the Colosseum in Rome. He clearly presented the information to the class, well done Scott, you were great! 🙂

The 3 bears porridge

Nynke had great fun following the recipe to make porridge. Nynke’s topic this term has been Goldilocks and the 3 Bears so she was trying to make it ‘just right’ 🙂

Next it was time to let her friends taste the porridge with the different toppings…

There was lots of laughter and funny faces trying the porridge. Nynke used the recipe cards to tell everyone how she made it. Well done Nynke, you are a star!

Child Smile

IMG_1879

Today Clare from Child Smile came into school to talk to us about keeping our teeth healthy. She showed us how much sugar was in some sugary drinks and sweeties. We could not believe it! There was more sugar in them than any of the bairns guessed. We will be trying to make wise choices for snacks.

London in WW2

IMG_1880 IMG_1884

Mrs French came into school today to talk to us about living in London during WWII. Mrs French was a little girl living with her mum and dad in London when the war started. She was not evacuated to the country, she stayed at home and her family survived the blitz! She told us lots of interesting things about her experiences in the war time. She talked to us about rations and showed us how much butter, sugar and egg(s) everyone got per week. Only 2oz of sugar and butter and only 1 egg! Most people in London didn’t even get a proper egg, they got powdered egg! She told us a story about going to her friends birthday party during the war and the birthday cake was a cardboard box decorated because the rations could not stretch far enough to make a cake. There was no fillings to make sandwiches with so all the bairns got a slice of bread with a spread of fat on it that had been saved from cooking meat. It was very interesting listening to Mrs French, thank-you for coming in to school to talk to us Mrs French 🙂

Eric Liddell

IMG_1769eric-liddell-400

Today we had a visitor in school. Graeme came to school to tell us all about the life of a notable Christian – Eric Liddell. Eric Liddell was an amazing Scottish athlete who won the gold medal in the 400m race in the 1924 Olympics in Paris. Although Eric is famous for his success in the Olympics, Graeme told us about Eric’s missionary work and how Eric’s beliefs influenced him to do lots of good in the world and help other people. A film has been made about Eric’s achievements called ‘Chariots of Fire’.

Bonjour de France

IMG_1778

Mairianne’s topic this term is France. Her topic homework over the last two weeks was to prepare a presentation for the class in which she would take the other pupils on a tour of France. Our lovely tour guide Mairianne started the tour in Paris where we visited the Eiffel Tower, learning lots of interesting facts, then we were off to the Catherdral of Notre Dame. Mairianne told us all about the very famous French Designer Coco Chanel. The class were surprised to hear that frogs legs are a French delicacy, they much preferred hearing about all the different kinds of French cheese and bread! It was very interesting to hear about French farming, the boys and girls didn’t realise what a huge industry it is in France. The tour ended with a few funny pictures of Mr Bean on holiday in France which made us all laugh. Well done Mairianne, you were an amazing tour guide. I’m so proud of your presentation 🙂
