We are really pleased with our tattie harvest this year. We grew them ourselves in tattie bags in our playground. 🙂

We have been learning all about the lifecycle of a butterfly. We got 5 tiny caterpillars from Insect Lore, we watched them eat and grow everyday until they were ready to form a chrysalis. We waited patiently, checking every day for the butterflies to emerge. All 5 butterflies eventually emerged then we had to feed them. We mixed up some sugar for butterfly nectar and also sliced up an orange. When the butterflies were ready to be released, we took them outside and released them.

We made fizzy rockets to explore Isaac Newton’s third law of motion. We made rocket fuel by mixing effervescent tablets (berocca) with warm water. This caused a chemical reaction releasing a gas, carbon dioxide, within the body of our rockets. The pressure from the gas then built up until there was enough force to push the lid down and the rocket up. We found that the longer it took for the gas to build up, the higher and faster the rockets flew.
