It was a day for visitors today, Elizabeth was back for more toothbrushing and Joy came for African drumming.

Mrs Marshall spent some time in nursery this morning. We helped her with her counting.

Brushing teeth.

Singing an African song.

Show and Tell (or Fun and Tell as Leah calls it!). We had to bring something yellow today. We also sang ‘Wind the bobbin up’.

We played outside with the primary bairns.

We went up to the garden. We picked a tomato 🍅 in the greenhouse to share and pulled up carrots. We each took a carrot 🥕 home.

It’s a good job we put our boots on, the tattie patch had been dug over and we enjoyed jumping around on it.

Caroline’s’ cat came to visit us too.

We watched the ferry load up a van and a truck and then watched it leave. We waved and the captain tooted the horn for us.

Reuben took this photo of his friend.

‘Look at me!’

What a busy day! We had the Playvan here this morning and the under fives group came to play too. We also had visits from Primaries 1-3.

Before the playvan we had a play in nursery. We’re still building towers -and enjoying knocking them down again.

We are enjoying trying out the dressing up clothes.

Trying out the nursery resources while looking forward to starting soon.

Sean had loads of stuff in the van and set it up for us.

Cars and farm …

playdough … we made pizzas, pancakes and people, a really ‘p’ activity!

Soft play …

“These are rusty rivets.”

Turning a piece of equipment into stairs.

Learning what size arch the car will fit under …

Snack and a story in the nursery.

Back for more fun, lots of parental involvement.

Magnets are great fun, whatever your age!

Peerie ones  enjoyed playing together.

Great interaction, sharing, imaginative play and FUN!

Who needs dolls?

Not sure that car will be safe in the volcano ….

Parent comments:

“Thanks for having wis, we really look forward to our days with you.”

“It’s been super!”

“I’ve missed you!” (Parent of a P1 with no one currently at nursery)

More clatch today!

We made moon sand with 4 cups of sand, 2 cups of cornflour, some water and lots of gold glitter.

We dressed up and played at being firefighters after the toy dragon set the pirate ship alight. Joey discovered the fire extinguisher could be filled with water and everyone had a good time squirting it. We set the timer on the iPad to help us take turns.

Some of the other dressing up clothes were used today too.

We are still enjoying working together to make tall towers.

We looked at the colours and number patterns on the dominoes.

Ball balancing!

Joy was back for some more African drumming.

Video of our drumming:

We danced like different African animals.

“I’m painting a picture for Mam.”

We added water to the sandpit to make a “muddy puddle” for the truck to go in.

We chose whether to do show and tell or go up to the garden today.

Monkeys in a tree (complete with sound effects).

Turn taking at being the ice cream seller. Lots of flavours, including melon and chocolate chip!

REMINDER – The play van is here from 10-12 tomorrow, all under fives welcome.

Monday 18th September 2017

Today has been a day of proil and clatch! And lots of other thing too.

Teamwork building the tower.

“I want pink and bubbles in da water tray.”

Shaving foam.

We added some food colouring and mixed it all up.

“Look at my names.”

It’s bigger as me!” Everyone helped to build the tower. It fell over when it got too high but we built it up again.

“Whar’s da step? I need the be higher.”

Counting the dots on the fish.

We wanted all of the emergency vehicles out at the same time.

“I want tae work we proilly stuff.”

Everyone wanted to decorate a box so we had to move to a bigger table.

Joey wanted his library book about dinosaurs read at snack time. Everyone enjoyed the story.

We ran around the school in the rain to use up some of our energy.

Wednesday 13th September 2017

Look at what we’ve been up to today:

Printing with leaves……and hands!

Pouring out some clean water for the birds to drink

We made some pizza. Shaun came to watch.

We did some careful chopping.

We chose our favourite toppings. We baked the pizzas in Margaret’s oven. “The cheese will turn into blobs.” – Oliver.

We discovered we really like printing with our hands.

We ate our pizzas at snack time. Yum!

We sang the “cups” song.

We proved we can be very careful and manage our own risk.

We did the “5 little monkeys” poem whilst sitting in the tree.

We found a den up in the garden. It was full of crocodiles!

Tuesday 12th September 2017

Another busy day.

The bubble dough had dried up a bit so we added some water and made slime.

We coloured in PJ Masks pictures.

The fire engines and micro machines were popular.

Row, row, row your boat … if you see a crocodile, don’t forget to scream!

Arghh! It’s OK, this crocodile only eats autumn leaves!

Lots of stories today, Elmer, The Hungry Caterpillar and Duck in the Truck as well as the songs CD.

The big bairns went first for drumming and we could watch – and listen – through the door.

Even though it was raining we still wanted to go outside, we had to get our boots on first. We picked leaves for painting and printing and took shelter in the greenhouse until the heavy rain stopped.

We painted with water.

African drumming with Joy.

Drumming video:

At Show and Tell we had lots of smelly things, a bath bomb, bubble bath, perfume, playdough, cloves … and a very cuddly dog. There was lots of sharing and taking turns as well as sniffing and water play!

The bubble slime and the scented water combined made for great sensory play!

We took the tough spot outside to clean it … closely followed by children in wellies to jump and splash!

Wednesday 6th September 2017

We made more music.

We did salt painting. It was great fun and we learned more about colour mixing. We used food colouring in droppers to mix the colours.  “Look, I’ve made orange.”

The workmen are going to make a new playground.

We listened to “5 little ducks” on the iPad then sang the song with our own set of ducks.

“I am the forklift!”

“We need a rope to stop the rock from getting away.”

We have changed our baking day for this week, so we “baked” some bubble dough.

The recipe:

We did calendar today. We learned about the day, the date, month, season and weather.

“I’ll set out the cones. You count them.” We learned that 6 and 1 more makes 7.

We worked together to make the tractor jigsaw.

We took the bikes out at the end of the session because the sun came out.

Tuesday 5th September

A much nicer day outside than yesterday so we didn’t need to hold on to each other to stop us blowing away!

The big bairns were out playing so we joined in.

Sand play, we made a beach!

We welcomed a new pupil.

We watched the ferry coming in and waved to the captain. He waved back and tooted the horn.

Drawing pictures

Exploring

Balancing

Can you spot the grapes in Oliver’s photograph?

We picked grapes to have at snack time!

Having fun in the playhouse.

“This is my calendar and I have crosses for the times when we were here.”

We had a visit from Joy and her African drums. We drummed, sang and danced. We had to do good listening and take turns. We even did counting in French, Spanish and Shetland dialect.

Video of us dancing:

We listened to The Magic Porridge Pot story.

We had show and tell today. This tool box plays music!

Monday 4th September

A busy day today with an unusually all girl group.

We had great fun with the water beads.

The big bairns came for a visit and a play at break time.

We made lots of sandcastles.

We took out the Barbies and Action Men and made Barbie  City with some shoeboxes.

We are reading Elmer stories and making an Elmer display with our artwork. Today we did printing with apples and peppers. We listened to the story Elmer and the Windy Day. The elephants in the story held onto each other so they didn’t blow away so we went outside in the wind holding onto each other too.

We did writing and photocopied it.

We made the tea with noodles.

The big car got stuck in the garage but it was rescued – phew!

We overlapped cellophane on the light box to make new colours and cut up pies to make our own patterns.

We enjoyed playing with the musical instruments today.

Below is a video of a music session with the band.
