We’ve had a bit of a musical theme going on today.

We learned about symmetry today when we painted butterflies for our Elmer wall display.

We painted some small butterflies and some very large butterflies!

Oliver made some vegetable soup in the playhouse outside.

“What can I cook now?”

“I want tae mak more butterflies.”

“Can I have some water to make a cup of tea?”

One of the large butterflies. We think it looks amazing.

Mrs Odie brought in her ice cream making machine. We all helped to make chocolate ice cream.

We mixed in coconut milk, honey, vanilla and cocoa powder.

“Can I look at the machine? Waw!”

Now time to taste the ice cream with some fruit at snack time. Delicious!

Look at how many butterflies we have made!

We read a funny story about pants!

It was a day for visitors today, Elizabeth was back for more toothbrushing and Joy came for African drumming.

Mrs Marshall spent some time in nursery this morning. We helped her with her counting.

Brushing teeth.

Singing an African song.

Show and Tell (or Fun and Tell as Leah calls it!). We had to bring something yellow today. We also sang ‘Wind the bobbin up’.

We played outside with the primary bairns.

We went up to the garden. We picked a tomato 🍅 in the greenhouse to share and pulled up carrots. We each took a carrot 🥕 home.

It’s a good job we put our boots on, the tattie patch had been dug over and we enjoyed jumping around on it.

Caroline’s’ cat came to visit us too.

We watched the ferry load up a van and a truck and then watched it leave. We waved and the captain tooted the horn for us.

Reuben took this photo of his friend.

‘Look at me!’

Monday 25th September 2017

Today has been about water play, counting, painting and using our energy!

We sorted the pom poems with tweezers.

“I like drumming.”

“Can we draw a cat?”

We needed an ear for Elmer’s friend on the wall display so we painted one with our feet.

Foot spa-with fish!

Cooking and eating in the playhouse.

Painting ice creams for the ice cream parlour.

Focus on counting. Can you put the right number of pom poms in each cup?

Lottie brought in some balloons. We had great fun throwing, catching and batting them. Lori took a picture of the bairns playing.

We read that story of The Tiger Who Came To Tea. Mrs Marshall brought in a tiger puppet. It tried to eat all of our snack.

We all did some great tooth brushing with Elizabeth from the childsmile team.

Making a friend for Elmer.

An Elmer story at snack time.

Playing out instruments outside, even a little bit of marching too.

A pirate and a spiderman pirate shared the wheel.

Lots of hand eye coordination being used.

Taking turns with mixing.

“The yellow bits are making it quite sticky.”

Working together so everyone got a shot of the mobilo.

Adding some extra pieces to the helicopter.

Lots of measuring with different sized containers.

We take turns to be the helper. Counting how many bairns today, finding their placemat. Are there enough chairs, cups and plates?

Then we ask our friends to wash their hands and come for their snack.

We made pancakes today.

“I’m a pirate captain. We are going to Shetland pirate school.”

Our work experience helper playing a game of football with us.

The sand got drier and we scraped it up.

Before the playvan we had a play in nursery. We’re still building towers -and enjoying knocking them down again.

We are enjoying trying out the dressing up clothes.

Trying out the nursery resources while looking forward to starting soon.

Sean had loads of stuff in the van and set it up for us.

Cars and farm …

Soft play …

“These are rusty rivets.”

Turning a piece of equipment into stairs.

Learning what size arch the car will fit under …

Back for more fun, lots of parental involvement.

Magnets are great fun, whatever your age!

Peerie ones  enjoyed playing together.

Great interaction, sharing, imaginative play and FUN!

Who needs dolls?

Not sure that car will be safe in the volcano ….

Parent comments:

“Thanks for having wis, we really look forward to our days with you.”

“It’s been super!”

More clatch today!

We made moon sand with 4 cups of sand, 2 cups of cornflour, some water and lots of gold glitter.

We dressed up and played at being firefighters after the toy dragon set the pirate ship alight. Joey discovered the fire extinguisher could be filled with water and everyone had a good time squirting it. We set the timer on the iPad to help us take turns.

Some of the other dressing up clothes were used today too.

We are still enjoying working together to make tall towers.

We looked at the colours and number patterns on the dominoes.

Ball balancing!

Joy was back for some more African drumming.

Video of our drumming:

“I’m painting a picture for Mam.”

We added water to the sandpit to make a “muddy puddle” for the truck to go in.

We chose whether to do show and tell or go up to the garden today.

Monkeys in a tree (complete with sound effects).

Turn taking at being the ice cream seller. Lots of flavours, including melon and chocolate chip!

REMINDER – The play van is here from 10-12 tomorrow, all under fives welcome.

Monday 18th September 2017

Today has been a day of proil and clatch! And lots of other thing too.

Teamwork building the tower.

“I want pink and bubbles in da water tray.”

Shaving foam.

We added some food colouring and mixed it all up.

“Look at my names.”

It’s bigger as me!” Everyone helped to build the tower. It fell over when it got too high but we built it up again.

“Whar’s da step? I need the be higher.”

Counting the dots on the fish.

We wanted all of the emergency vehicles out at the same time.

“I want tae work we proilly stuff.”

Everyone wanted to decorate a box so we had to move to a bigger table.

Joey wanted his library book about dinosaurs read at snack time. Everyone enjoyed the story.

We ran around the school in the rain to use up some of our energy.
