SOUTH MAINLAND VIRTUAL SPORTS DAY & PICNIC

South Mainland Virtual Sports Day

I hope you are all getting excited about our annual sports day? Please click on the GREEN – South Mainland Virtual Sports Day. There is nothing to stop us from enjoying this annual event. We can do this. The  focus will be on FUN and involving as many of the FAMILY as possible.

All we need is:-

1 A fine day  (picked by the children)                                                                        2 An organiser (children’s responsibility);                                                          3  Equipment (children’s responsibility);                                                              4  Picnic Food (children’s responsibility)                                                                5 Music (picked and set up by the children)

The Powerpoint Presentation in GREEN above, shows your children how to host their own sports day so that you, the adults, can sit back and watch them and RELAX. After they have finished their 10 selected events, the children then prepare a PICNIC for you and them to ENJOY whilst relaxing music is playing in the back ground. It’s not finished yet, then children organise an obstacle course for anybody to join in safely. Adapt the course for different ages and abilites and strengths. Last of all, the children CREATE their own race / event and adapt it so everyone can join in, adapting it where necessary.

There will be a certificate for all who took part including family. There will be certificates for the funniest  photos, happiest group, best obstacle course, best event created and BEST PICNIC. Please send to me on gw08smithjoan@glow.shetland.sch.uk

Guess who has to tidy up? Yes you are right, the children have to tidy up the equipment and the picnic. There is one last important part to be done:-

Fill in the SCORE SHEET and the REFLECTION SHEET in your child’s Class Notebook in the HWB pupil section in TEAMS.

I am looking forward to seeing and hearing all about the sports days that took place and the memories created.

School Closure

Shetland Islands Council’s Children’s Services Department is closing some of its schools and Early Learning and Child Care Settings to children and young people from Monday 16 March to Friday 20 March for operational and resilience reasons. Dunrossness Primary school will be closed to pupils.

We have issued learning at home packs with each child. There is a letter inside each pack explaining what we would like pupils to do. If your child is absent today and does not have a sibling in school, please come and pick up your pack from school. The office will be open on Monday from 9.00am to 3.30pm.

Children’s Services will be issuing further information to parents and carers at the start of next week. We will endeavour to keep you updated.

If you need to contact the school for any reason, please use the Dunrossness Primary School email address. durnossess@shetland.gov.uk

Thank you for your understanding,

SMUHA Enterprisers – Final Jewellery Design

I will be placing the orders for this beautiful necklace on Friday.

Please get contact me if you would like to order one.

During SMUHA week, some enterprising pupils from P6 went up to Shetland Jewellery’s workshop in Weisdale. They learned all about the jewellery making process, and then came back to school to create their own design. The group worked together to create a piece that has the school logo’s lighthouse, a peerie galley and a Celtic knotwork sky.

Sophie Whitehead-Robertson has worked her magic over the week to have a completed piece, based on the pupil’s drawings.

We are delighted that parents, friends and families are able to order this unique piece. The pendant will cost £40, an can be ordered through the school office. Please email us for any more information/to place an order.

At special request, this piece can also be made into a brooch.

The price we are able to offer you is fantastic, and much lower should it be bought off the shelf.
