Environmental Education at Brekon Beach

We went to Brekon Beach for ShEEP Day. Brekon Beach is in Cullivoe, We took wellies, The sun made the beach feel really warm. One of the activities we did was seals and dolphins with Brydon and Anona Hughson. The first game we did was animal noises the reason we did  that game was because they where telling us is it how animals contact each other.  The game is  where you get a card and you have to make that noise and the other people have to find the same noise that your making of the animal. It was really funny! Next we did the smelly test it is  where you had to smell what was in the bag and find your partner it was like the animal test except you had to smell and then go and check. The reason we learned about that was because the animals also connect using smell.  Next was my most favorite game was dolphins and fishes were you had to be blind folded and find the person to help the catcher we had to shout fish when the catcher said dolphin. The reason why we played that  game  is because animals use there hearing so they hear the other animals that are trying to connect to them.

 Relay for life 

On Saturday Kerry, Laura and I went to Lerwick in dad’s car. We went to the Chinese for our tea then we went to Imogens house (Imogen is my 1st cousin). We all got ready for walking and dropped off our sleepover stuff there.

Then we all went to park the cars near the Clickamen then we met up with the rest of our team. The Clickamen is a leisure centre in Lerwick with a swimming pool and curling and that stuff. Our team was called SLN Shetland; we all had to go to the running track at the Clickamen to see the opening ceremony.

After that we all got on the track and got walking, at 10 o’clock Abby came and walked with us. Laura, Imogen and I ran around the track 4 times. Then we went to the BBQ, Laura had chips and Imogen and I had sausage rolls. We watched a dance group and then got juice and a cupcake.

We did a bit more walking then we went home to sleep. We only got to sleep at 1 or 2 o’clock in the morning!

Relay for Life, Shetland

On Saturday I went to the Shetland Relay for Life at the Clickimen. I was in a team called The Sella Ness Superstars! It’s called that because the team was made up of people who worked in Sella Ness. The Relay for Life is held in the Clickimen running track.  Relay for Life is about raising money for cancer and helping cancer awareness. It goes on between 20:00 to 8:00 the next morning so it goes on through the night. The candle bag ceremony happens at 22:00 and the bags are litten all night. If a candle goes out then you light it again to show that they live on.

At the beginning the survivors lead the relay to start. The youngest survivor of cancer gets to cut the ribbon. Each team gets a number to follow the survivors and our team was number 2! So we were very near the front! There was about 160 teams’ altogether! When everyone had started walking our team just kept on walking for an hour till our team split up into groups so we each had an hour later! Me and Shannon walked to Tesco’s and got some Hoola Hoops and a sweetie! We got a lift back by Kaye in the car. After words we went walked a bit on the track for half an hour and went and had a walk around in the tents. We both bought a spiky jelly feeling necklace except mine was in green and hers was clear. There was a big white board on the outside of a tent that played the names of the survivors of cancer and the ones who lost their life to cancer. We sat and watched until it was over.

Me and Mam hour for walking was between 00:00 and 1:00 and it seemed to go on forever but since my legs were in walking mode I walked an extra half an hour! After we had walked, we went and got something to eat at one of the stalls! I had a cup of tea and a fancie. I went to our tent afterwords and had a peerie sleep till 6:30 in the morning. I told mam to get me up that early so we could do the last hour. The man started to count down at the last minute and everyone cheered when it was over! The man on the speaker told us to all gather around the tent for some of the thanks of the night. He thanked the sponsors and all of us. Me and mam went to Tesco’s after that and went back to the ferry!

The Plant Hunt

On Thursday we went outside on a lovely sunny day to find wild flowers with Mrs Lewis. We had a sheet with the wild flowers that we had on a list. They were lots of flowers on the list so we had to make sure we were paying attention otherwise we will miss the wild flowers. We had to put sun cream on so we didn’t get sunburnt. After we put on sun cream and sun hats we got to go outside. We found lots and lots of Daisy and Dandelions outside in our playground. We walked down keeping an eye out for any wild flowers or cars. We took pictures of the wild flowers. We found quite a lot which surprised us all. We also went to the Old Haa and looked at the beautiful pictures. We also meet the person who had drawn the pictures and she gave us tips on how to get the effect on the sea and the sky. She used water colours and sometimes used oil pastels. We walked back and went into Mrs Lewis’s garden and found more wild flower. When we got back Me, Jennifer and Mrs Lewis made a picture with flowers and name labels on the paper.

Transition in Midyell

On Wednesday the P7s went to Mid Yell Junior High School for Transition. We took Miss Breyleys car because there are only 3 of us. We had to sign in at the desk in the visitors book. Lydia and Ming were also signing in at the same time so we all walked to the P7 room and sat down at the tables with our team.

Our first task was to think up some ideas for the opening ceremony for sports day. Mrs Johnson put on a timer of 5 Min’s and 14 seconds for us to write down our ideas. We each got given a number to have a task to do. I was number 3 so I was the scribe. After the timer stopped we sat and told the other groups our ideas then Mrs Lawson wrote them down on a big bit of paper for us to vote on later.  We all decided that we were going to walk around in a circle with our teams in the ceremony with the Scottish anthem playing behind us. The team leaders also had to wave the flag.

Our next task was to make a flag for us to wave on sports day. Our team decided that we were going to have the American flag but instead of the stars on the flag we would put a pineapple because our team is called The American Pineapples! We all got a large sheet of fabric and we decorated it. I started to cut out red strips for the red stripes on the flag.

We had piece which was different sorts of fruits! Megan showed me around the school, the bell rang so we headed back to the P7 room.

Mr Williamson came to talk to us about the final arrangements for sports day. We had originally planned for the sports day to be outside but it was such bad weather that it had made the pitch all muddy so we changed it to be in leisure centre. We also had to change some of the activities so that they could be inside.

We had a bit of time after he left to finish our flags. We had to stick on the pineapple and some more stripes then we were done!

We went for dinner which was either Pasta carbonara or stew. I had the pasta. Outside we played Kenny but we had to go in when the bell rang.

Inside the teachers split us up into 3 groups of 5 and had different tasks for us to do. Ms Boulay had a french game for us to play, Mrs Johnson had Jenga with different things written on them that we had to do (like 20 star jumps or say what our favourite song was, etc) and Mrs Coutts had scattagorys except it was the colour of the olympic rings. Our group went to Ms Boulay first. We played a game like snap except in french but all the others were so fast that I only got 1! At jenga there were 2 tiny towers so there wasn’t going to be a lot of around 1 tower. Me and Harry were at one tower and Jack, Lydia and Michael were at the other. Harry took out a brick that said we had to move the tower 1 metre away from where we first were and that took a bit of faffing about! At my last shot I (of course!) made the tower fall down! The last group was the scattogorys with Mrs Coutts. All the groups were having a competition to see who could get the most points. Our team got 23 and won! After that we left and went to the shop.

We were aloud to get a sweetie or an ice cream at the shop so I got a cornetto! We went back to the school and it was 20 minutes till home time so we did maths while eating ice cream!

Transition Day

We went to Mid Yell for a transition day. We went in and sat at our teams table. We got material to make flags for our opening ceremony at sports day. We made a third of it red, a third of it black, and on the other third we put a eagle. It was the Egyptian flag. We came up with ideas for the ceremony like having 5 rings taped together to make Olympic rings and a torch. We went for break then when we came back we finished our flags and cleaned up. When we did that we worked on our audio. We got it recorded then we downloaded it. We listened to each others and evaluated it. Then it was lunch time. We had food then I met an old friend outside. When the bell rang we went inside. We looked at how sports day was going to happen. We split into 3 groups and went to a teacher. First I had Mrs Johnson and we did what we were happy and not happy about going to Midyell. Then we played jenga. I moved on to Mrs Coutts and we played Olyimpic Scatigorys.  Then I went to Ms Boulay to do Olyimpic themed French. We had the countrys layed before us and medals. We had to get the right country and medal. Then we went home and did some maths.

Golf

We have been having golf for four weeks every Tuesday. We either had golf outside or inside depending on the weather. Linda our golf teacher has been teaching us. On the first week it was inside the classroom so we had to clear a big space. Linda brought plastic golf clubs and golf balls. We got to use drivers, We had to aim to a velcro circle, and if we hit the middle of the circle we got 50 points and if it bounced of we got 5 points.  The next week we used putters and drivers outside. Some of us hit them quite hard. Next week it was inside, and we used the putters. We had to aim towards a number on a card the highest number was 10 points.

The next week was our last week 🙁  We got in pares, I went with Melissa. We had to get the most score as we could get. We had to beat our first score when we came to the second go Me and Melissa got 105 points. I enjoyed it very much.

Here is my certificate.

P7-S1 Transition

This Wednesday was transition in Mid Yell Junior High School. First we had to get to Mid Yell, Once we were there and in the school then we had to sign in. After we signed in then we went into the P6-P7 classroom, all of the P6’s had to go into a different class for the day so that we could do our transition stuff.

The first task was to plan an opening ceremony for Sports Day in 5 minutes and 14 seconds all of our groups came up with very different ideas. We all voted for different ideas and then jumbled them all up so we had a mixture of the ideas which we voted for. Then we had to make big flags in our different groups ( the groups are all different contrys). Me, Peter and Bryden’s group are called The Kyrgyz because our group is based on Kyrgyzstan. We had to make our flag out of a red sheet and yellow fabric, we attached our flag to bamboo sticks with cable-ties.

After we had finished our flags then we had to record an audio claip to put on our groups blogs.  We had to find information which we then had to record so that we could add it into our blog. Then we had to go for dinner I had a baked tottie with cheese on top and grated carrot. We got a bit longer on our blogs then we got to do different activities.

One of the activities were seeing how many different places you could think of with one of the coloures of the olympic rings in their name e.g. one of the olympic rings are green so I could say Greenland. there were other things that we had to think of like different names if animals e.c.t.

One of the other activities to do were French places and medals and the last activitie was jenga with forfits on every block so once you had removed a block then you had to do whatever it said you had to do. Once we had done all of the activities then the winners of the olympic rings sheet were announced  then we went to the Linxhouse shop. We got to get ice creams there but Brydon got a sweetie. Then we went home.
