Cooking our own LUNCH!

Today at school we cooked our own lunch! The week before we decided on what we were making! We decided on Mini pizzas (one for each person) and for pudding we had angel cakes with apple wings and fruit dips! In the morning we talked about the 3 main things to do, Chopping, making the angel cakes and making the pizza bases! My team which were Leah, Phoebe, Honor and I made the angel cakes! The ingredients were 113g of flour, 113g of margarine, teaspoon of vanilla essence, 113g of sugar and 2 medium sized eggs! We first of all mixed the margarine with the sugar till it was completely mixed through! We next whisked the eggs and added them into the mixture slowly also putting in the flour at the same time. We also put in the teaspoon of vanilla essence. We mixed it even more! We put the mixture in the cake cases and put them in the oven for 15 to 20 mins. The rest went outside after pice but I stayed behind to see how the cakes were doing! When Elsie opened the oven door you could smell them and they smelt REALLY good! They were risen and were fully cooked through so we set them on a cooling rack. There was 5 mins left of piece time so I went outside in my apron! My apron was white and a wasp landed on it, it was NOT funny! We got the wasp off by pushing it away with a glove! Piece time finished and we got back to our jobs!

Our team started to mix up the butter icing while the cakes were cooling. The ingredients for the butter icing was 113g of icing sugar and 56g of margarine. I did the measure while the other took turns at creaming it toghether. The other needed a hand at getting it creamed so I got them started then they did really good!

The cakes were cooled and Jennifer showed me how to cut off the top of the buns. The peerier ones spooned the mixture onto the cakes and we were going to put apple on top instead of the rest of buns so we fed the birds with the cake tops!

Overall the day went really well and we all enjoyed our lunch! Exept I dont think it will happen to often!

On The Swan on a sunny day

We went on the Swan, We had to put our life jackets so if well fell over the side of the swan  we would be able to swim back to the boat.  Next we climb on to the swan and sailed off once we were out of the Marina (Marina is where people put their boats) We took a rope and pulled and pulled the rope to get the sail up. It was hard work! Next we got to coil up the rope Me and Lucy did some and Kay and Mia coiled the rope. Next we all got a go at stirring the swan in the right direction. It was great fun! Next we had our dinner which was sandwiches had those below deck. Some of us went into the bunks. Next we went up and sat down on the deck and started singing  Head and Shoulders (that was very funny!). Than we asked if we could see the engine room, and we were allowed to it was great fun looking at the engines and it was very very very hot inside! Next we had to turn the boat around and towards the Marina, That’s when the trouble happened after we hauled the sails. Leah’s hat blew off and landed in the sea we tried to rescue it but we couldn’t. The Swan was really fun  and I would recommend it to people who come to Shetland!

Lucy’s Accrostic Poem

Accrostic poems have a word written down the side of  them. Each letter of  word written at the side is the first letter of the line. Here is My Accrostic Poem, it’s called Odd Day.

Octopuses are flying about the room.

Dolphins bark as they play tag.

Dragons play cards in the Jacuzzi.

Dancing parrots play football.

Armadillos cheer on the parrots.

You really have no idea what happens on an odd day.

My Limerick!

Hairy Blair Limerick

There once was a boy called Blair

He owned a lot of hair

It was set on fire

Next to the byre

Because of some faulty software

This is my limerick from when we were doing about Limericks in language! A limerick has to have 3 beats in the top line and the second line , the next 2 lines have to have 2 beats and the last line has to have 3 beats! The top 2 lines have to rhyme with each other, the next two have to rhyme with each other and the last line has to rhyme with the first line!

Acrostic poem

Random is good

And so is food

Now eat a pie

Don’t go and cry

Orcadians in your house

Mustard all over a mouse

By Brydon

This is an acrostic poem I entered to the Shetland young writers competition. Acrostic is when there is a word down the side and each line begins with the letter.

Sailing on the Swan

We went  on the Swan. It is an old sailing boat. We get to go on it every year. My dad was part of the crew, The crew were Barry { the captain,} Peter, John and Gib { my dad}. Dad said that it was hard work to pull the sails up and down. We helped pulling the sail up and down. We also had to coil the ropes to keep them tidy.
