Underwater

Underwater

One blue moon in a gloomy forest there were dry sticks lying on the ground. The trees had scary faces on them. Just then a dog jamp out of the trees and landed on a twig, the sound it made was SNAP! He ran out of the forest onto the beach, he could hear a noise that sounded like splash and then again splash so he ran to the sound. It was an octopus splashing the water. In the distance he could see a mermaid on a rock. The dog jamp into a brown, wooden boat that was on the beach. He pushed the boat into the sea and rowed away to the mermaid. The sea was bumpy, rough and there were lots of bits of drift wood but the dog got there after all. The mermaid said I know where there is an underwater kingdom. The dog said I can’t breathe under water, the mermaid giggled she said “of course you can” the dog shacked his head. The mermaid said hold my hand then you can breathe.  So they went under water the dog could see the kingdom they were mermaids and mermen he could fell slime seaweed the seaweed was riling. Were a village and a castle in the castle they were a king the king the king shouted out load to the dog. The king said go to the dungeon.  Then he claimed his voice. The dungeon had mossy bits on the walls, there was an old mermen. The dungeon had a room.  He went in the room the dog smelled smoke and he felt hair it was an old man it was not a merman he was smelting swords and axes. Before the dog leapt out of the dungeon, the dog replied I saved a mermaid it was your daughter. The king shouted will you go home now the dog said is there an evil monster around here? The king said there is an octopus. The dog swam up to the octopus the octopus was not there the octopus was hidden him. He talked to the octopus the octopus was trying to be friends with the mermaid. So everything was ok so then the dog went to the forest and back home he loved playing with the mermaids but he loved his owner because the play ball not sewed but the dog loved any of it.

Nielanell’s

We went to a shop called Nielanell’s in Hoswick. Two people called Neila and Minty worked there. Neila was the main person. She showed us what inspired her to make jumpers and shawls and that was animal print, like an elephants ear, crocodile skin effect, snake skin and fish scales. Neila put the crocodile print shawl on Melissa it was red and a grayish colour. Minty put on the elephants ear shawl. They were quite colourful. We saw all different kinds of sheep wool. Neila had a spinning wheel from New Zealand, the difference is that the New Zealand one can take in ribbon and beads to make really interesting wool.

Laurence’s Knitwear Factory

On 19/06/13 we went to the knitwear factory which is in Hoswick the factory  is called Laurence J Smith  (Laurence Odie knitwear. )  On the way we passed  Tingwall and Voe then we went through Sandwick. I loved the journey and enjoyed discovering jack jack stick on your back at the beach  ( which is a plant that sticks to your hair and clothes it is so sticky) We spent most of our time at the jumper factory and it was so cool. There were lots of machines that were huge. We went upstairs in the factory and saw Sarah designing jumpers on the computers, she made us a panel that had Burravoe School on it and then Jennifer got a copy for each of us. We went into the shop. Most  of the  jumpers went to Japan and America. I liked looking at the Viking dummy, it was fascinating .

Nielanell’s

We went on a school trip and one of the things we did was we went in a shop called Nielanell’s. There were two ladies working there, one called Minty and the other one called Niela. They are partners. They knit and spin. They make fabrics based on an animals or animal skin. It is in Hoswick. It is a small shop. They spin their own wool and some of it is multi-coloured. Niela and Minty use crocodile skin, an elephant’s ear, snake’s back, fish scales and bird feathers as inspiration. I learned that there are hundreds of types of wool from hundreds of types of sheep. It was very interesting. I liked when we watched her spin and also when she showed us what work she had done. It was amazing work. I really enjoyed it.

We went on a school trip to Sandwick. We ate dinner at Hoswick cafe. I had a panini with melted cheese and crisps and salad and I had chocolate cake for pudding. There was an exhibition of old radios and old weaving looms and old ship radios and a record player. There was a shop as well. I got a key ring of a sheep.  I had to pay£1-90  for my keyring. It was fun and I would go there again.

Edinburgh Trip Part 1

I went on the Edinburgh trip (which happens every 2 years for P6 and P7) I am the only P6 and there is no P7. Me and Jennifer went from Burravoe. We went on the trip with P6s and P7s from Mid Yell, Cullivoe, Fetlar, Nesting and Unst. We go for 1 week; you have to take 1 overnight bag (for the ferry) and 1 big bag (when staying in the hostel in Edinburgh!)

Sunday

On Sunday; I caught the Ulsta ferry with the other schools; I sat by a girl called Christina from Cullivoe.  When we got to Lerwick (which is over an hour away from Yell) we headed to the Northlink Ferry Port. We took our ferry bags into the waiting room; in the waiting room we got given our boarding cards to let us on the ferry and into our rooms. Then we boarded the ferry, My room number was 424, I shared with 3 girls; 1 from Cullivoe and the other 2 from Mid Yell, I have met them all before because we go to Mid Yell every Thursday for P.E with Cullivoe and I go to netball tournaments and I have met some Mid Yell people. Me and my friends had dinner on the boat; I had chips. After dinner we asked one of the teachers on the trip to take me and my friends outside. When we got back in the cabin it was 8.00 and we had to be in bed at 9.30; at 9.30 we have to give in our phones to our group leaders (My group leader was Jennifer!) That night the sea was really calm!

Monday

We drove through Aberdeen (where the ferry comes in) It was quite early in the morning; we watched Pirates in the bus as we were travelling down towards Stirling. In Stirling we went to see the Wallace Monument, the Wallace Monument is a very tall building. We had to walk through a small wood to the monument, it was quite steep pathways. When we got to the top of where the Monument stood you could see the whole of Stirling in front of you. We walked up the spiral staircase up to each floor which had galleries on them. On one of the floors were models of people who were like queens and kings. The top floor had the most AMAZING views of Stirling, from the top it looked like the buildings were flat; it was quite windy up there!  We went to Toby Carvery; it was a buffet, I had a massive Yorkshire Puddings, and some chicken.

Then we drove to Edinburgh and put our suitcases in the hostel; we put our suitcases in our room, I shared with Freya, Christina and Ashley (who shared a cabin with me on the boat) we also shared a room with Eden, Theresa and Sophie. My room number was 217, our room had 8 beds but there were only 7 of us. After a couple of hours we went to the cinema and watched Epic, It was really good. When we got back it was about 9 o’clock; so we gave in our phones and went to sleep, it was quite noisy because there were fire engines and police cars zooming past.

On Saturday

On Saturday it was the carnival and we were on the alien float and we won for the best themed float. But that day, before the carnival, we did the last finishing touches, for the last week we have been working really hard (because if we were still working we would be working as we speak). When we were on the float we threw out Milky Ways and Mars Bars. But on the float we ate flying saucers sweeties (coloured sherbets). When we got to the weaving shed we got out and they announced the winner and it was……………..US!

My Busy Weekend

On Friday, I went down to the weaving shed. They were getting prepared for the carnival. Merrie Dancers were performing on stage and when they left, Brian Nicolson and Maggie Adamson entered the room. Maggie was in Burravoe for sailing, Brian had brought his guitar and Maggie brought her fiddle. Maggie is one of the best fiddlers in Scotland. They played away and then my dad went up to them and because I had my fiddle with me (I bet you know where this is going) he asked them if I could play with them. I played my main 5 tunes with them.

On Saturday, I had two events. In the morning I had to get up early and get dressed up because I was doing a Disney themed sponsored walk/run. It was towards Yorkhill Childrens Hospital. I was being Tinkerbell, Bradley was being Yoda, Mam was being Tigerlily and Sofia was being Perrywinkle. Sofia was doing 1km, Bradley was doing 5km and mam and I were doing 10km. I was very spagie the next day.

The SAME day I had the carnival. I was wearing a green dress so it was easy to turn into the float theme. The Burravoe bairns float was aliens and we came 1st, the Christmas float came 2nd and the Pirates of Yell Sound came 3rd. We got a prize of £100 for charity. We haven’t decided yet what we will put it towards. Ms Breyley and other helpers cooked a BBQ for everyone. There were Beef Burgers, Chicken Nuggets, Cheese burgers and hotdogs. We had a late night.
