When we got on the ferry we all went up stairs.  When we got there some people got changed and others just changed their shoes. You had to wear either trainers or special AstroTurf shoes because we were playing on AstroTurf which is fake plastic grass that is very very expensive then we started playing I was in Yell two with some others from Mid Yell and Cullivoe . First we did a warm up we stood in a circle and passed the hockey ball and called out their names so they knew we were going to pass it to them and so we got used to calling their names. We won 5 games with school that came up to the section we were based to play hockey we played against Bells Brae, Happy Hansel, Yell one and other small schools.

Visit From Mrs Miller

On Tuesday we got a visit from Mrs Miller she came to tell us about the Scottish Parliament. The first thing we did was that we had a quiz on the board and we got little gadgets with numbers on  them and the questions were numbered so you had to press the number for your answer. After that we went into political parties my one was the animal party the other ones  were the music party and the computer party. we had to think up reasons why they should vote for us but you could not vote for your party you had to vote for a different party, when we counted the votes the music party won. But the last thing we did was the best thing we did, I got to be a Presiding officer and I had to say a speech and bang a gavel on the table.

Gala Concert 2014

We went to the Gala Concert, and we played the song that we did at the music Festival, Minnie o’ Shirvas cradle song. We had a great time. We did not see anybody else before us because we where 4th in our group. We went on and bright lights came on, and they felt warm. We sang and we felt amazing and the person that makes all the events happen was crying and she said really good comments about our singing and playing, so that was nice, and our music teacher said really good comments about us too. After that we looked at other people’s groups and they where where good too. I liked the boys singing they where really great too, but my favourite group where the drummers, they sang and played cookoo.

Gala Concert

The Gala Contest is a little bit like the Music Festival but it only has the adjudicator’s favourite performers.  We missed three because we had to wait in the café bar for a lady to take us into the green room where two other groups were waiting. The other groups were called The Mid Yell Minis from Mid Yell lower primary the other group were two boys called Tom Tait and Attie Black who were piano players. We heard them playing a duet together in the green room but they left and then went on stage. Another school came in as we were leaving to go on stage. When we got out the room at the end of the passage there was a door which lead you to a long steep staircase. We had to go down them, when you got down you were back stage. We had to wait for Tom and Attie to finish and then some men helped us set up on stage. We performed. It was very fun.

Afterwards Concert

On Thursday we got invited to the Gala Concert at the Mareel. We went on the half five ferry. When we got to the Mareel the children had to wait on the bus when the grown ups had to put all of the instruments into the Mareel. When they had done the children could go into the Mareel. They walked up the stairs and they sat in the café bar until they had to go into the green room. When they were in the green room they did not have to wait long until it was their turn to perform. Before they knew it they were on the stage. It took them a little while for them to set up but when they started it was good I thought that it sounded so pretty and I think everybody else thought it sounded so pretty to. But we had to watch all of the concert and we all got very tired because the Gala Concert only ended at 5 minutes past nine. When we got on the bus I think that everybody was tired.

The Gala Concert

We went  to the Mareel on Thursday night. It was very squished because they where lots of schools in the Mareel. We had to go up stairs. We had to to go on the 5:00 ferry to go to Lerwick. We had to pro form for the Gala Concert witch is a concert that the adjudicator picks the ones the ones that where the best ones to perform again because we had a gold plus. It was not for a competition it was just for  fun so we did not go against  other schools because we had to pro form in front of people not schools but some schools where watching and it was just for fun.  We went to the Café Bar to sit and wait they where sofas in the café bar. We sat on the sofas. I had to pick a seat so I can sit on the chair when I pro form it was really nice and soft. We had to warid our school uniform with our school uniform on it is blue with our school logo on it. We had to sit and wait for a little minute. Then we went to the green room to wait before we went on stage we had to pro from before we went on  the stage. We singed a dialect song it is called Minnie O Sevas Cradle Sang. We went back stage before we went on the stage you can hear the people that was on before us witch was the piano duet. I was really exited to perform. We did the song   I played the xylophone so did Phoebe they where keyboards, a fiddle a bass and the procoucan witch was p1 and p2 and p3. We where very proud. Then we went to watch the rest of the music on the balcony.  We watched the rest of the schools we had to take our school uniform off because it was really hot  and everybody was sweting. We watched Cunningsburgh Drummers P6/P7 and they did Coo Coo, Orchestra Ostinato, Aith Primary Wind Band, the young musician of the year and the Bells Brae Boys quire at the end to finish it off. Music Festival Gala Concert 2014

We went to Lerwick on Thursday the  20th of March  to go to Mareel for the Gala concert. The Gala concert is a follow up of the Music Festival with certain acts that were chosen to play from the Music Festival on the Tuesday during the same week .We were one of them so after P.E. we all headed strait home or went to trampolining. When most of us got home we ate our tea quickly and head to the school before 5:00 to catch the  5:30  ferry to Lerwick. Most of our family were on the same ferry as us because they were coming to watch us preform on stage in the auditorium. When we got there we went to the toilet. Then we got lead to the café bar were we sat down for a little while and read the program for the night  we were on 4th strait after Tom Tait and Attie Black who did a  piano duet and they were  the 3rd  group to preform. Then it was our moment to shine again we were all very nervous and very very warm underneath our school jumpers. We played Minnie o’ Shirvas Cradle  for the second time once we had finished we walked of the stage and we were lead  off  back stage to the auditorium balcony. We watched the rest of the acts the  only down side was we missed junior musician of the year Mike Laurenson. After Mike had  finished his song or songs we don’t know  because we weren’t there then we entered the auditorium balcony and had to sit on the steps because they were so many people already watching from the auditorium balcony  but in the end  we got seats after Cunningsburgh School had left we got two rows of seats for us all to sit in. We watched the Bells Brae Boy’s Choir they were very very good. Then we  watched the rest of the acts they were all equally good. I loved them all but the  others might have a different view but I enjoyed it.

Shetland Youth Wind Band

We went to Mid Yell to watch the Shetland Youth Wind Band on Thursday the 13th of March. We went at 10.30 on a bus, We got there at 11.00; the concert was being held in the Leisure Centre  where we usually go for P.E. every Thursday. When we got there we got to watch the SYWB (Shetland Youth Wind Band) practice before the concert started.

We were the only school that had arrived at the time, so a couple of musicians from the band came across to show us their instruments, we got to try and play the saxophone, flute, piccolo and a clarinet. Only Kerry made a sound on all the instruments. When other schools came pouring in. The musicians from the band went over to them and do the same thing is they did with us.

When all of the schools had come in the band sat down in their places and got ready to start playing their instruments. They played The Great Escape, The Muppet Show Theme Tune,  Spongebob Squarepants and Mission Impossible. When they played Spongebob Squarepants everyone in the joined in singing the chorus! It was great fun! The conductor asked us questions about the instrument groups that were in the orchestra. She asked us about the brass group and what instruments were in it. We all loved watching it them perform!

Getting a go at playing new instruments

Watching them perform in front of us!

This is them performing The Muppets Theme Tune.

We walk up a passage in to a room called the green room. There was a wall that had a big mirror stuck to it.  We walked down the stairs, down the stairs is something what looked like a basement and there were two cupboards one which was bigger. There was a door that lead to the stage in the auditorium. We went up and sang and played on the stage. After we sang a lullaby, all of the audience fell asleep.
