Magnus brought in something very special to show his classmates. He had won the Shetland Swimming age championships Peterson Trophy. The first time the trophy was presented was in 1979 – can you work out how many names are on the trophy now? (A new name is added each year) Well done to all Westside sharks for doing so well both in the competitions and the dedication you show every week in training. Mrs Redfern is also very pleased how well everyone is progressing in their school swimming lessons too!

Indian spices with Mrs Moffat
On Thursday, Mrs Moffat came in and made Indian curry dip. First we made raita. The ingredients were cucumber, mint leaves and natural yogurt. It was very yummy. Next we made the curry dip. The ingredients are Philadelphia cheese, tomato sauce, mango chutney and curry powder. It tasted kind of spicy but it was nice. Alicia’s favourite one was the curry dip, Ellie liked all of them and Megan’s favourite one was the curry dip.
Primary 1 go to Up Helly Aa
Primary Toy Sale
Primary 1 held their toy sale today to raise money to help pay for their trip to Up Helly Aa next Tuesday. We received donations of lovely toys, books and games and at 2.00pm there was a mad rush of buying and selling. Nearly everything was sold.
Primary 1 helped count the money and we were delighted to discover that we had raised about £115! This will help pay for the bus and possibly a snack for everybody.
Thank you to everyone who donated toys and to everyone who bought from the sale.

S2 came to visit P1
Miss Fraser and secondary 2 came to our classroom this morning to show us how to make circuits, buzz buzzers, use switches and light up bulbs. We really enjoyed it.
Hector said “I liked the buzzing thing.”
Liena said “I liked when we made the red, green and blue lights.”
Bobby said “I liked the magic key one that made the fan turn fast.”
Reeta said “I liked lighting up Rudolf’s nose.”
Christmas decorations are up!
A busy week for Primary 1
This week we have met Tiger Ten and learned our new phonics ‘m‘ and ‘r.’ We have been thinking about fireworks and how to keep safe on bonfire night. We also spoke about how to keep safe on dark nights by wearing reflective clothes. We went on a walk with Mrs Nicolson to look at 3D shapes in our environment.
