Scotland topic

This term we have been learning all about Scotland.

First we coloured in and labelled a giant map of Scotland. We have learned about different castles in Scotland then used clay to create our own castles. We found out information about Robert Burns then typed up our own poems using Scottish dialect. We found this a bit tricky. We read some Our Wullie stories and wrote our own Our Wullie comic strip.  We all enjoyed making shortbread and yesterday we finished off our newspaper reports about the Loch Ness monster. P7 are also coming in on Mondays to help us make PowerPoint presentations about Scotland.

Charles Rennie MacIntosh

As part of our ‘Where in the world is Scotland?’ topic we found out about Charles Rennie Macintosh, an artist from Glasgow who was also an architect and designer.

We were inspired by his work and had a go at creating our own rose pictures which we completed just in time to take home on Valentine’s Day.

It is interesting to see how we all used colour and line a little differently, all with beautiful results.

Pancake Day – yum!

Primary 4 and 5 came up with a number of good reasons why Miss Leask should let them make pancakes on Shrove Tuesday – including weighing, measuring, reading instructions, sequencing, team work, co-operation to name but a few ….. how could she refuse 🙂

P.S. They were delicious!

WEEK 3 – PRIMARY 1 – LEARNING (B)LOG

This week we have enjoyed writing using Viking Runes, playing in the galley boat, making clay Viking Longhouses, watching ‘Gudrun: The Viking Princess’ and drawing and painting Viking people.

We have been learning about length and measurement, practising all the phonics we have learned so far, making a toy with Mr Rose which required elastic energy and sharing storysacks with the secondary pupils.

Finally, today we held our toy sale in class.  We were really busy organising for the sale and helping set up the class with assistance from Primary 6.  The sale was a huge success and we raised £132.20.

Primary 3/4/5 trip to Mareel and Scalloway castle

What a busy Monday Primary 3/4/5 have had. Despite chilly weather all pupils were dressed warmly and were raring to go on a very interesting school trip.  First stop was Mareel where we enjoyed the experience of watching the film ‘A Christmas Carol’ in a cinema with our classmates.  Afterwards we went into the projection room, here we found out how films get projected onto the big screen.

Explaining how 3D films work … and how 3D glasses don’t work if you put them on upside down!

With a key that big, it can surely only be for a castle door

A little play outdoors before we head home again.

Movie maker visitors

Freya Deyell came to visit us last Monday to speak about how to make movies. She showed us a few movies that her and her sister Emma had made. One movie was very spooky but we thought they were amazing. Freya also told us about the importance of making a story board to help with the movie sequence.

Keiba clubb came in to visit today. She has made lots of movies and adverts. We even got to see a secret advert that no one else has seen yet but its top secret so we can’t say what it’s about. We worked with a partner and created a story board using wide shot, close up and mid shot. Keiba is going to come back and see our movies when they are finished. By Ellie and Hector.

Meeting Buddy the bear

“Buddy arrived In P3/4 in a golden box” ( Bobby)

“Buddy came from America and he wants to be a famous film star” (Fraser)

“We are working in groups and going to make our own movies about Buddy. Mrs Moffat very kindly gave us a basket full of clothes for Buddy” ( Bobby)

“Just now we are busy making props for our movies” ( Fraser)

We are so excited to make the movie.
