Super Movers

On Friday we watched Super Movers live lesson it was about shapes , symmetry, area, width and length.

First we did a weird 5 times table dance.

We worked in pairs and one of us had to freeze in what ever way and the other one had to copy. This helped us to practice mirror symmetry.

We had to draw really hard shapes and mirror them.

It was really fun.

Hope you have a good day.

Mummification

This week we learned about mummification. It was pretty disgusting. First they sliced a slice in the left side of the dead body. First they would take out the lung, heart and the stomach and put them in jars. Then they would stuff the body with leaves and sand. After that they would wrap up the body with a special type of cloth. Then they would have a funeral and put the body in the coffin. The cloth was called linen.

Mummy crafts

Primary 6/7 has been making the 2D mummy coffins.

We had a plain blue piece of paper, then we added a smaller sheet of gold paper on top so it was like a blue frame around the gold then, we had precut mummies that we had to decorate and add a lot of detail and stick that on. We used paper straws and we could use any pen, pencil or paint it we also used some left over gold and blue paper.

Our Trips to ScreenPlay Film Festival

On Monday and Tuesday primary 6 and 7 went on two trips to the ScreenPlay film festival. Primary 6 went on Monday to see Revolting Rhymes  and on Tuesday primary 7 went to see The Breadwinner. There were two parts in Revolting Rhymes, the first one was about Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood and the second bit was about the Big Bad Wolf baby sitting Little Red Riding Hood’s children.

The Breadwinner was on Tuesday. The story was about a little girl called Parvana  and her dad which she called Papa who got taken away to prison for telling his children stories. They didn’t have much money so they tried to sell things at the market. Parvana had to pretend to be boy so she could buy food from the shops. In countries living under the Taliban, women are not allowed to go outside without their husbands. Many of us did not know that. We really liked the animation.

Afterwards, we had a workshop in Mareel. We got into groups and we spoke about how to turn a story into an animation. We drew storyboards for the main scenes.

Week 2 in Primary 1

We have learned about the letter S.  We used playdough and pipe        cleaners to make S.  We coloured in Snake then practiced writing lots of s.

We learned about Penguin One.  We found out that Penguin One slid so much on the snow that he got a black mark on his tummy which looked like a number 1.

We have enjoyed the morning walk, playing with the prehistoric stickers, playing outside at playtimes and our school dinners.

Next week we would like to learn about number 2 and some new letters.

Mareel trip- Revolting Rhymes

On Monday, Primary 4, 5 and 6 went on an outing to Mareel to see the short film Revolting Rhymes written by Roald Dahl. The film had some twists, turns and gruesomeness to create a collection of classic tales including Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Snow White, Goldilocks and the three bears, Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Little Pigs.

After the film P4, 5 and 6 went to the auditorium and completed a workshop linked to the film. Everyone worked cooperatively with a partner to create their own revolting rhyme.

As it was such a lovely day P4, 5 and 6 then went to the play park before returning to school.

It’s Friday, the end of week 1 and we’ve had our first 3 days in Primary 1.  It’s been a busy week getting to know the other children in our class, learning new routines, getting used to the playground and canteen.  We all got our first reading book and have the first 6 characters from the Oxford Reading Tree reading scheme.

I asked the class what they enjoyed about their first week in Primary 1 and this is what they said;

“I enjoyed playing in the playground outside.”

“I like the morning walk.”

“I like reading.”

“I like the school dinners especially the pizza.”

“I like being outside.”

“I like learning new things.”

“I like the craft things in class.”

“I like playing in the sand and water.”

Have a good weekend everyone!
