Today Primary 1 and 2 spoke about all the different fireworks they saw on bonfire night. Then they really enjoyed creating their own fantastic glittery firework pictures.

Writing letters using finger paints

We have been busy practising our letters today. We wrote the letters using our ‘magic finger’, remembering where we start each letter, then used paint on our fingers to write each letter.

We are learning about 2D shapes in Primary 1

We used lollipop sticks to make 2D shapes. We made squares, rectangles, triangles, diamonds, pentagons and hexagons. We discovered that we couldn’t make circles because the lollipop sticks are straight and circles only have curved lines.

5 Shetland Schools – The Art World @ Bonhoga

Today, primaries 1 and 6 went to see the exhibition at Bonhoga. They saw all the work that they had done with Mrs Hunter and Amy Gear in Art. They also saw work done by children from other schools in Shetland.

We asked the primary 1 what their favourite things were. They said “busy bogies”, “the firework”, “outside in the long grass among the sculptures” and “finding pencils upstairs”

Primary 1 learn about halves and quarters

We made and decorated paper cakes.

We each decided whether we were going to cut our cake into half or quarter.

We know that each half or quarter needs to be exactly the same size.

We folded the paper to find the middle.

When we cut 1 whole into half, we end up with 2 bits.

When we cut 1 whole into quarters, we end up with 4 bits.

Primary 1 café and Show and Tell

We have really enjoyed playing in our café and making delicious food for customers to eat.

On Friday James had a very special Show and Tell. He wanted to show everybody his new little sister, Bonnie. She was only 13 days old.

Early Years transition into Primary 1

On Tuesday the Early Years pupils came through to Primary 1 classroom for their first transition visit. We had fun playing with all the activities and sharing a story together.

All kinds of bears in Primary 1

This week in Primary 1, we are thinking about all kinds of bears. We have lots of teddy bears in our toy shop, busy dressing bears in all sorts of clothes, making polar and teddy bears in craft activities, polar bears in our icy water and lots of other bear related activities.

On Tuesday, we were really lucky to have a visit from Wendy Inkster who makes Burra Bears. She told us what she uses to make the bears, how she makes them and brought a lot of different Burra Bears to show us.

There was lots of discussion and questions and we loved Wendy’s visit to Primary 1.
