Course Overview: Young Enterprise Scotland aims to equip all young people with the skills to thrive in life, learning and work. Our Scotland’s Financial Schools professional learning programme is designed to support teachers build their confidence in delivering financial education learning experiences and ensure our young people are equipped with appropriate financial skills. The course runs four times throughout the year and consists of two CLPL sessions. We would ask practitioners attend both.
Session 1 – Introducing financial education across the curriculum
- To raise awareness of what financial education is and why it is essential for developing skills for life, learning and work
- Learning for Sustainability contextualisation with links the Sustainable Development Goals, DYW agenda, Career Education Standards 3-18, Curriculum Entitlements and the Attainment Challenge.
- To encourage a cross curricular approach to financial education going beyond numeracy and maths
- Overview of ‘Scotland’s Financial Schools’ website – includes access to free lesson plans, a whole school reflections tool and a Financial Education Scottish Progression Pathway which is linked to Curriculum for Excellence
- Overview of financial workshops delivered by our SFS team (secondary schools only)
Session 2 – Embedding financial education through IDL
- Encouraging a sustainable approach to embedding financial education into teaching and learning
- Examples of delivering financial education through interdisciplinary learning opportunities
- Examples of case studies to inspire and motivate
- A practical session to encourage discussions and the sharing of examples and ideas

New Dates – Self Harm and Suicide Prevention for Children & Young People
NEW DATES – Self Harm and Suicide Prevention for Children and Young People.
This is a bespoke half day training session facilitated by Health Improvement Specialists from the NHS Borders Public Health Team. It is aimed at anybody working with children and young people who are likely to have direct and/ or substantial contact with those who may be at risk of self-harm or suicide. The session covers:
- Facts and trends associated with self-harm and suicide in young people;
- Common risk, protective and stress factors related to self-harm and suicide in young people;
- An awareness of the impact a sensitive, compassionate approach can achieve when discussing self-harm and suicide (using the principles of Time, Space and Compassion);
- The links between self-harm, suicidal thoughts and trauma informed practice and;
- Approaches to support including the steps involved in safety planning.

Using Arts & Culture to Create a Climate-Ready Future
USING ARTS AND CULTURE TO CREATE A CLIMATE-READY FUTURE
Creative Carbon Scotland and the Improvement Service have worked together to develop a free sprint training programme to empower local authority officers to utilise cultural and creative practices in the delivery of their work to help create a more sustainable future.
Working with arts and culture offers many opportunities to advance work on climate change adaptation, mitigation and the just transition, and this programme will provide both training and bespoke advice to help participants to develop work in this area.
The programme is open to any local authority officer who feels it will make a difference in the delivery of their role. This is likely to be those working in climate change adaptation or mitigation, just transition planning, community development, economic development or arts and culture, but other areas will be relevant too.
The programme will be delivered via Teams by members of Creative Carbon Scotland and input from artists and other experts in the field. There will be six hours of contact time and an expectation of six hours of individual work between sessions.
When signing up participants will be asked to submit a climate change- or sustainability-related challenge they want to work on through the programme.
You can submit an application using this online form before the deadline of Friday 19 July. Applicants should be able to display a demonstrable interest in the subject matter and work in roles that provide clear opportunities to apply the learning from the programme.
