Mental Health Stigma and Discrimination

The programme consists of two sessions, delivered online, on Thursdays 16th and 30th November 2023 from 4.30 – 6pm.

Colleagues will:

  • Gain an increased understanding of mental health stigma and discrimination.
  • Develop a greater awareness of the impact of mental health stigma and discrimination.
  • Gain an increased knowledge of approaches to reduce mental health stigma and discrimination across various settings.
  • Know what actions you can take in your school that address stigma and discrimination.
  • Gain a better understanding of where you can access resources to continue your development.
  • Be able to embed a focus on mental health stigma and discrimination when adopting the whole school approach in your school.

Parents and families can be a great support for a school and can help senior management in so many ways. This session works through the positive and effective ways a Parent Council can help engage with families and the wider community to help support learning. It addresses specifics around the role of the Parent Council and its interaction with school. There will also be time to discuss some of the potential challenges and how to manage relationships.

Developed in partnership with senior management teams and headteachers, this session consistently receives very positive feedback from both delegates and local authorities.

The session is interactive and informal with opportunities for discussion and questions. It’s a great chance to learn more about how you can work effectively with the Parent Council and to hear about good practice in other schools.

Healing Classrooms Basics Training

Healing Classrooms Basics Training

This online training consists of three 90-minute sessions that provide school staff with the basics of the Healing Classrooms Approach. Sessions feature case studies, discussions and good practice-sharing activities on how to best support refugee students in schools across the UK.

In this training, you will:

  • Learn about the key psychological impacts of conflict, forced displacement and resettlement on children’s brain development, behaviour and learning
  • Develop your understanding about trauma within the context of refugee communities
  • Explore psychosocial support strategies that schools can adopt to create healing spaces for students seeking sanctuary
  • Receive a printed copy of the Healing Classrooms Basics Training Handbook

Bookbug Training

Applications for our next training term, January – March 2024 on our website are now open!!  They close on Monday 6 November, 12noon. As well as our usual Bookbug Session Leader (in person and online) and Bookbug for the Home online, there are now open dates for our new Bookbug for the Home blended training.

 We are returning to our previous method of a two week application window. Delegates have two weeks to complete their application, and complete one application which will cover all the dates they want to apply for.

Late applications will not be accepted.  Successful applicants will receive an offer to sign up via Eventbrite and have two weeks to accept.

All applicants will hear about the outcome of their application by Friday 8 December 2023. 

Note: If you are referring a staff member to training as a high priority, please ask them to write that clearly on their form in the ‘Indication of Need’ section. e.g. start with “Referred for training by NAME (Steering Group member) as a high priority”, and then continue to write their indication of need as normal. We have hundreds of applications to get through, so this will help us make sure we’re not missing anyone you’ve noted as a priority 🙂

Application format

The Applications for BBSL and BBFH now use Microsoft Forms. Applicants will get a confirmation email, but are also given the option to download their responses after submitting.

HWB as the Responsibility of All

This two part professional learning opportunity will explore the HWB curriculum as the Responsibility of All and will highlight the necessary culture and ethos required to embed this approach. It will provide practical suggestions for implementing it within your own context. Staff from across all sectors are welcome to come along and find out more.
