Hello and welcome to primary one! Our class has 9 girls and 13 boys and our teacher is Miss Morrison. In primary one all of our learning is done through play and we have so much fun! We are kind and helpful in our classroom and always treat others with respect.  We work very hard to complete our learning tasks each day and try to do our very best.  When we are proud of something we have done in class we share this on our proud clouds to show everyone our amazing work.

In maths we will learn lots about number including addition and subtraction and counting.  We use lots of songs, games and rhymes to help us count and recognise numbers and to count accurately.  We will also visit other areas of maths including shape, time and money where we will use games, and fun activities to help us understand these concepts.  We enjoy maths activities every day in class which helps us to be confident and independent in our learning.

In literacy, we will be learning all about the Oxford Reading Tree characters Biff, Chip and Kipper and will begin reading simple words and sentences independently.  We will also use Snake, Bee and Inky from Jolly Phonics to help us learn letters and their sounds.  We will begin to blend these letters to read and spell words. We will also focus lots on hearing rhyme in songs, stories and games.

We will use Talk for Writing to explore telling stories through actions and symbols and will begin to write some simple stories, letters and instructions of our own. In primary one, we will start to write our first and second names and will learn the correct formation for each letter, we will practice these lots to make us confident writers!

In primary one we will learn lots through our different topics.  Some of these include blue planet where we learn all about planet earth and weather where we learn about the seasons and the types of weather you may see- we will also do some weather reports of our own!  We will also do a space topic where we learn all about the sun, moon, stars and planets.

We love to go outdoors and will go to our outdoor area every Friday where we will enjoy practicing our gross motor skills as well as learning about our topics, literacy and numeracy through engaging outdoor activities.  We will also visit the fishery and the woods to enhance our learning during our topics.
