Early Years

Hello and a warm welcome to Tarbolton Early Years class.  We are a friendly and enthusiastic team here at Tarbolton, we currently have 9 Early Years Practitioners, 1 Senior Early Years Practitioner, an Equity and Excellence Lead and a Nursery Class Teacher.  We currently have 36 children attending our nursery from ages 2 to 5 years old, with other children joining us throughout the year as they turn 3 years old.

We listen to our children’s voices and use observations to understand what they are exploring and investigating, using this information to plan for our children’s learning using The Curriculum for Excellence.  We are responsive to our children’s learning so we are always adapting to their ever-growing ideas and interests, working with the children in this responsive way allows the children to take the lead in their own learning and setting up of the nursery environment.  We provide a variety of rich experiences such as sand and water play, painting, drawing, block play, role play and many more.

At Tarbolton we see outdoor play as hugely important in children’s learning and wellbeing and we are very fortunate that we have access to 2 outdoor areas.  One of these areas is attached to the nursery allows the children free flow access throughout the nursery session.  The other area sits across the school playground and is used by our children for half a session 1-2 times per week, led by our experienced and well-trained staff, both of whom are Forest School Trained.  Children are love exploring this area, helping to cook their own snack on the fire and developing their skills in literacy, numeracy, health and wellbeing as well as being able to risk assess their own play.

We see parental involvement as highly beneficial to our children and their families, therefore we actively encourage our parents to attend our Peep, Bookbug and stay and play sessions.  We run parental workshops which gives parents the knowledge and confidence to assist their children in their learning.

We want our children to have lots of fun, make happy memories with staff and their friends before their next adventure into primary school. Our goal is for every child to flourish and achieve their full potential.
