Alloway Burns’ Supper

Well done to William and Harry who were chosen to perform, “Address to a Haggis,” at the Alloway Burns’ Supper at Ayr Town Hall. Both boys performed with confidence and did a great job memorising the poem. They also got to enjoy performances from other schools and a special Scottish snack.

Mock Court

On Monday 21st January, children from p7/6 attended a mock trial at Ayr Sheriff Court. Each child had a role to play such as solicitor, witness, writer, artist and gown maker. The class was split into two teams, the defenders and pursuers. Our pursuers were against Sacred Heart Primary and the defenders were against Fenwick Primary. The case was about damage done during a house party at Mr and Mrs Byte’s house while they were on holiday. The pursuers were trying to claim money back for the damage from the insurance company. Our defenders won their case. Our pursuers gave excellent evidence but their opponents were only found liable for a small amount of the damage.

The whole class worked really hard on this project, which included lots of writing, maths, art and drama. The children enjoyed getting to see a real courtroom and meeting real solicitors and sheriffs.

Family BBQ

What a fantastic night at our Barbeque and Music night organised by the Parent Partnership.  Our musical entertainment was by Mr Welsh and the Percussion Ensemble and of course our own wonderful P7 pupils.  Everyone enjoyed the lovely food served by the Parent Partnership and staff, we must thank ‘We Hae Meat’ for their donation of all the meat products.

World Book Day

The whole school had a wonderful week celebrating World Book Day, with parents and pupils sharing stories, parental workshops on reading and writing interventions and it all culminating on Friday where pupils and staff dressed up as their favourite story characters and we had a house big book quiz.

Term 2

This term we have been learning about light and lenses in Science. We have enjoyed investigating with microscopes, magnifying glasses, mirrors and torches. We also made our own kaleidoscopes.

Our topic was Australia. We did lots of research and wrote information texts. We also created our own “Visit Australia” adverts and did some Aborigine artwork.

Primary 7 enjoyed an ACE day where they went mountain biking. The course was quite challenging but all of the children did well.

This term we have also been working on a Mock Court project. We have had visits from a solicitor who has helped us to write an initial writ and plan a defence based on a scenario where damage was done at a party. Each child has taken on a role such as court artist, writer, researcher, gown maker or witness. Jack and Lennon have both been doing a fantastic job of being a solicitor. Next term we will visit the court in Ayr to act out our scenario with other schools so we will need lots of practice!
