P7/6 – Term 4

I cannot believe we are in our final term already – time has flown in! We are looking forward to a busy term in P7/6 and preparing for our future in Primary 7 and academy!

This term, we have been extremely busy preparing for our school show ‘Rock Bottom’. Children put in a lot of time and effort in order to perfect lines, delivery, singing, dancing, sound, lighting, props, backdrops etc! They did an excellent job and we are all so proud of them.

Our Talk for Writing unit this term is ‘Gadgets’. We are focusing upon persuasive writing techniques. The children started off by trying to persuade Mrs Morrison to get rid of school uniform!

In numeracy, we are focussing upon our division strategies. We are encouraging the use of CPA approaches (concentre, pictorial and abstract). In maths, we are building upon our knowledge of ‘measure’.

We baked cakes for a special coronation themed cake sale. This was part of our Make £5 Grow project. The children looked at costs of what we would need for our cake sale and we worked out selling prices to ensure we would make a profit. This combined with our previous sales at the Easter service means our total raised so far is over £100! The children will be involved in deciding how the money is spent.

We are continuing our weekly outdoor learning sessions on Fridays. Children have been learning how to safely build fires, taking part in team activities, helping to clean up our village and there is lots of time to play and have fun (climbing trees is one of our favourite things to do!)

In PE, we have been working on our athletics skills in preparation for sports day. The children are taking part in inter-house competitions including rounders, football, basketball, cross country running, javelin and long jump.

Thanks,

Miss Baillie

Term 3 and 4

In terms 3 and 4, primary 1-3 have been learning a range of topics. We started the year looking at Scotland and all things Scottish. We tried a range of Scottish foods, learned different poems and sang songs with David Hunter. We then moved onto our topic of The World Around Us. This topic has allowed the class to learn about lots of different things. We started with the jungle and looking at what animals live there and their habitats. We then began to look at famous monuments and created some with a range of resources. We are currently learning about different careers and discussing what we would like to be when we are older. It has been really exciting exploring the different aspects of the world.

This term we have also been learning about data analysis and measure. We have been participating in lots of active maths and getting the chance to use the outdoors and school to measure different things. We learnt about centimetres and metres and the differences in different measurements. We will be moving onto fractions for the rest of the term and we can’t wait to do more active tasks.

During our outdoor learning sessions, we have been building our team building skills. We have been working hard at working together and as part of a group using different equipment. Mr Woods also built a fire with us one week and brought us in marshmallows. This allowed the class to learn about fire safety. We can’t wait to keep going out once a week to enjoy the sunshine!

We have been working hard through our Talk for Writing activities and have developed lovely handwriting skills and have become superstars at using adjectives in our writing. This term we will be focusing on punctuation and will have a big focus on speech.

P5/4 Term 4

This term we have been learning about the Royal Family and the King’s Coronation.

In maths we have been doing lots of practical measuring activities.

Our Talk for Writing text this term is “Mr Big.”  We used our local area for ideas for our writing by going a walk up to Brunston, where we discovered an abandoned golf club (and an abandoned door!)

We are continuing our weekly outdoor learning sessions on Fridays. Children have been learning how to safely build fires, taking part in team activities, helping to clean up our village and there is lots of time to play and have fun (climbing trees is one of our favourite things to do!)

In PE we have been working on our athletics skills in preparation for sports day. The children are taking part in inter-house competitions including rounders, football, basketball, cross country running, javelin and long jump.

Niamh Bulfin, who is our educational psychologist, has been working with us this term on Positive Psychology lessons. We have been talking about what makes us happy, what we are good it and optimism.
