P6- Visit to Scotland Street School
On Thursday 21st March, Primary 6 went to Scotland Street School. Our topic in term 2 was the Victorian era and we enjoyed learning about all the happenings between 1837 and 1901.
We travelled by bus; it took us 30 minutes. When we got there we had some time to play with Victorian playground toys and explore the different rooms. After lunch, Primary 6 were split into two groups: boys and girls. The children were given costumes – waistcoats and collars for the boys; girls had white tunics. They were lined up in straight lines from smallest to tallest and had to use their arms to make sure they were in a straight line with equal spaces between them.
The teacher assigned the children seats. She was very strict and stern looking and spoke in a deep and threatening tone. The children had to stand up when she spoke to tem and call her Miss.
The children were asked to recite their times tables. Following this they did a mental maths test using slates and crayons, and then a spelling test. The tension could have been cut with a knife. The children had to copy out words in Copperplate writing using ink, a blotting sheet and fountain pens. It was quite tricky to use these pens without smudging or making a blot. Left handed people were not allowed to use their left hand in Victorian days but the teacher allowed them to.
After about an hour the teacher rang the bell and transformed into a modern day teacher – everyone was so relieved!
P1/2 – Rolling their eggs

Keeping safe online

Yesterday, James had the opportunity to be our Head Teacher for the day.
I think you’ll agree that he looks very comfortable in that chair! James did a great job and very kindly announced that we could have an extra 5 minutes break!

Raising money for SCIAF
Week 3 in Primary 1
The class have been working very hard this week in a number of curricular areas. We have started to learn about our capital letters, continued to learn about money and space, and we also continued to be bucket fillers!
This week we all had a chance to practise writing our capital letters on the SmartBoard and thought about where we use capital letters. Some of the ideas we came up with were: Paisley, Scotland, Earth, at the start of a sentence and at our first and last names. We also played matching games that let us match our lower-case letters to the corresponding upper-case letters, which we did well at.
We updated / finished our Bucket Filling wall display. It is now brighter and it has visuals for us to look at and remember how our class should look, sound and feel like. Miss Payne took our photos which will go up on our wall display to fill the gap and we told her what we do to fill buckets so that she can put that up on our display.
Charity toast- 10p a slice
The Citizenship Group, led by Mrs Lawson, are raising money for SCIAF. During Lent, they are selling toast for 10p per slice, during the morning interval on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
