Yesterday we had a very enjoyable and informative performance from the Hopscotch Theatre Company about being cyber safe.

Cyberbuddy taught us how to be S.M.A.R.T while online. The children were fully engaged throughout the whole performance and learned some very valuable lessons on the importance of being safe online.

We recently ran another successful Family Art Session. Thanks to all who attended.

Here is a link to the activities that are available through Renfrewshire Leisure during the Spring Break.

Our children have researched various jobs and prepared a short speech about a job that they would like to do. Each class was asked to vote for the talk they found most interesting and engaging. Our class winners  presented their talks to the whole school and the overall winner was James Docherty in P6/7, who would like to be a detective. Yesterday, James had the opportunity to be our Head Teacher for the day.

I think you’ll agree that he looks very comfortable in that chair! James did a great job and very kindly announced that we could have an extra 5 minutes break!

Some of our P7 girls collected money for the Marie Curie Daffodil Appeal and raised £59.26.

Our Fairtrade Coffee morning was a great success and we raised £85.10.

On Friday 29th March, we are celebrating an international day to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Children can pay £1 (£2 per family) to come in dressed in clothes from a country of their choice. Alternatively they can wear a small symbol representing the country of their choice. For example, a thistle, piece of tartan, sombrero, a small picture of a flag using face paints. There will also be competitions held on the day and they can choose which of these they would like to enter for 50p each. The competitions are:

• A rock, paper, scissors tournament (originated in China)
• Guess how many sweets are in the jar ( invented by a Hungarian)
• Enter a drawing competition using pencils ( first created in English)

The Fundraising Group

Primary 3/4 have given presentations to their class about their dream jobs. There was a varied list of dream jobs, including: Artist, Chef, Electrician, Medical Scientist, Art Teacher and Teacher.

Fairtrade Coffee Morning

As St Peter’s is a Fairtade school we will be hosting a Fairtrade coffee morning on Friday 15th March. This will take place in the dinner hall from 9.30 – 10.30am.  We would like to invite parents along to support our event. If anyone would like to donate Fairtrade baking for this we would be extremely grateful.

On Monday our school were given an introduction to Judo. Our instructor, Jack demonstrated some Judo moves to each class and also introduced them to some Japanese words. The children really enjoyed the sessions.

Happy World Thinking Day to our pupils from various organisations.

Well done to our girls football team yesterday on their fantastic performance at the Renfrewshire Active Schools Girls Football League at Castlehead High School. Their great teamwork and determination paid off with them winning 5 of their 6 games. Well done girls!!

Children who reach 5 years of age between 1 March 2019 and 29 February 2020 inclusive should be registered for education in their catchment school as follows:

• Pupils whose surnames begin with the letters A – L should be registered on Wednesday 16 January 2019
• Pupils whose surnames begin with the letters M – Z should be registered on Thursday 17 January 2019

Registration will take place between 1pm – 3pm on those dates.

Parents should produce their child’s birth certificate and two proofs of residence which must include:

• Council Tax notice for your property or proof that you have registered for Council Tax at that property, and
• a letter from your solicitor confirming that missives have been concluded or a rent book for rented property, tenancy agreement or mortgage/bank statement.

Today we were treated to the first ever performance of a Staff Panto . Some of our staff performed a specially written sketch from Pinocchio. By the children’s reaction, I think they thoroughly enjoyed it. Who knew what budding actors we have !

Just a reminder that the school will close for the Christmas break at 2.30 p.m. on Friday the 21st December and reopen on Monday 7th January at 9.00 a.m. On behalf of all the staff and pupils at St. Peter’s Primary we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Last week we presented our Christmas Musical Show – Children of the World.   In the show Gabriel and the angels celebrated the birth of Jesus and brought children from around the world to the manger.  The countries visited were Malawi, China, Australia, America, Poland and Ireland. Each class learned about the different festive customs in these countries and sang songs from the countries.

St Peter’s are supporting students in St Andrew’s Academy who are travelling to Uganda in June. The St Andrew’s pupils will come and deliver a short assembly to our school about the Uganda Appeal.

Afterwards they will run a bookstall in the gym hall to help fundraise for their trip. All books will cost £1 each. The stall will take place on Thursday 6th December 2018.

Today we held a St. Andrews Day assembly. Each class performed a song or poem to the whole school. We had a variety of old and new Scottish themed items, Ally Bally Bee, Bonnie Wee Jeannie McColl, 3 Craws, Lament to a Dinner Ticket and Caledonia, to name a few. The Nursery and whole school are looking forward to a performance from ‘The McDougalls’ Theatre Company on Friday 12th October. We are asking for a £1 donation for school funds to help cover the cost of the performance.

St Peter’s Parent Council Meeting Tuesday 23 May 2018

P1 and P1/2:  Sports Day will take place in the morning of Tuesday 19th June.

P2/3 – P7: Sports Day will take place on Wednesday 20th June. The theme for this year is the “European Championships” which takes place in August 2018.  Each class has been studying a country and should wear their team colours for Sports Day. The opening ceremony will take place outside on the grass area ( weather permitting) at 9.30 am.  Activities start approximately 10 am. The closing ceremony will take place at 2.30pm.

Please feel free to ‘drop in’ and visit your child’s class throughout the day. You are also welcome to take part in any of the sports activities.

St. Peters Health Week will run this year from Monday 18th June to Friday 22nd June. We have a very busy and exciting week planned for the children.

Active clothing can be worn throughout this week as the children will be involved in physical activities each day. Please make sure that your child has suitable clothing e.g. no football colours/team strips/cropped t-shirts. Please ensure that your child has suitable footwear for activities. Children will be encouraged to drink lots of water this week and should have their own water bottle.

We look forward to a fun filled week full of positive team spirit and look forward to seeing some family members during this week. A letter will sent home with more details.

St Peter’s Parent Council Meeting 7 March 2018

The Fairtrade Citizenship group will be holding a small toy and sweet tuck at lunchtime on Tuesday 27th March. Our supplier, Rainbow Turtle will be supplying the stock. Prices will start at 40p for sparkly bangles and increase to £1.20 for Fairtrade Jelly Beans.

We are also holding a raffle next week for a Fairtrade Chocolate Explosion box. Tickets will be 50p and the winner will be announced on Thursday 29th March.

On 26th March we will have an additional Head Teacher for the day.

The children have recently been learning about the world of work. During this time they have researched various jobs and prepared a short speech about a job that they would like to do. On February 23rd they delivered the speech to their class, Their classmates were asked to vote for the talk they found most interesting and engaging.

Today the class winners  presented their talk at assembly and pupils were asked to vote for an overall winner.

The overall winner will be Head Teacher for the day on the 26th March  and all class winners will have tea with Mrs Mazzoni and Mrs Lawson that afternoon.

The sale of toast to raise money for SCIAF is doing very well so far.

The Citizenship Group are selling toast for 10p a slice at interval on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during Lent to raise money for SCIAF.

The Citizenship Group, led by Mrs Lawson, are raising money for SCIAF. During Lent, they are selling toast for 10p per slice, during the morning interval on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  So far we have had quite a queue and hopefully it will continue like that so that we can raise as much as we can.
