Important Information Regarding Return to School (January 2021)

Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope that you and your families enjoyed a restful break over the Christmas holiday period. As you know the school holidays have been extended for all pupils until Monday 11th January. Following the First Minister’s announcement today, pupils will then begin online learning from Monday 11th January and this will continue for all pupils until the end of January.  The School Team will meet tomorrow to discuss and plan our approaches to online learning. We will provide you with more information about arrangements as soon as possible. For vulnerable children and children of key workers, the school will be in touch tomorrow through by e-mail to provide further information on arrangements for these young people to be in school.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards,

Natalie Fitzsimmons
Headteacher

Winter Hardship Payment

Scottish government have confirmed that children in primary and secondary school who receive a free school meal on the basis of low income are eligible for an additional £100 winter hardship payment. We encourage parents whose child is eligible for a free school meal to apply this week so they can receive this payment – www.renfrewshire.gov.uk/freeschoolmealsandclothinggrants

Anyone who has previously applied for a free school meal for this school year (2020-21) will receive the payment directly into their bank account before Christmas. Anyone who applies between Monday 30 November and Friday 18 December will receive this payment by mid-January at the latest.

P1-P3 pupils are not automatically eligible for this payment as every child receives a free school meal regardless of their family’s circumstances. We would urge all families on low incomes with a P1-P3 child to apply for free school meals by Friday 18 December.

Nursery children of low-income parents aren’t entitled to the winter hardship payment, but are entitled to the £27 free school meal payment to cover the festive break. If you are eligible, please apply at www.renfrewshire.gov.uk/freeschoolmealsandclothinggrants

Further information on the COVID winter hardship payment (£100 per child) can be found on Scottish Government’s website.

RSNO AND CHILDREN’S CLASSIC CONCERTS CHRISTMAS SHOW

Join RSNO and Children’s Classic Concerts for a free family Christmas show, ‘The Night Before Christmas,’ this Saturday. Kids and grown-ups can watch and sing along as Owen Gunnell makes a mad-dash attempt to organise his Christmas festivities after discovering he slept through the first 12 days of December! The story follows the CCC presenter as he scrambles to organise his celebrations and even discovers he forgot to write his letter to Santa. With a little bit of help from the RSNO musicians and the RSNO Junior Chorus, Owen endeavours to get sorted on time, and get everyone in the Christmas spirit along the way.

‘The Night Before Christmas’ will premiere live on the STV Player and the RSNO and CCC’s Facebook pages and YouTube channels on 12 December 2020 at 2pm.  It will be available to watch for 30 days.

A trailer for the show can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMDl5F43xL8

Parent Communication Group

Firstly, thank you for all the parents/carers who have taken part in our Parent Communications Group over the past few months. Our digital meetings have been very successful and have led to improvements on our website and in our whole-school communication methods.

Over the past few weeks, we have taken your feedback and updated the following on our website:

• Improved accessibility to the website
• Added whole school updates section (PDFs of whole school letters)
• Added an interactive whole school calendar
• Added a ‘telephone’ contact button for iOS/Android devices
• Added direct links to Parent Pay and Parent Portal
• Added a translate option to help our EAL families access whole school information.
• Removed unnecessary tabs to make the website more accessible on iOS/Android devices

Renfrewshire Latest Update (11.11.20)

Dear Parent/Carer,

As you know, the Scottish Government has now introduced a system of new protection levels to help stop the spread of COVID-19, and Renfrewshire has been placed at Level 3.

This means some extra guidance for schools to help keep everyone safe, and we’ve listed what that means for you below:

  • we can now resume indoor PE for pupils. Pupils will continue to wear joggers and a polo shirt to school as the changing rooms are still not operational. During the winter months, it is important that all pupils get out to play when possible and can participate in outdoor learning in all weathers. We would therefore ask that all children come to school during this time wearing appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear to allow them to be outside in all weathers.

  • currently, school staff keep a two-metre distance from pupils as normal practice, but staff will now wear a face covering wherever this is not possible. This will apply from Primary 3 and above. We are conscious of the impact of this on our pupils – where children require additional support, we will identify a different approach which balances safety and quality of communication.

  • school staff will wear face coverings in all communal areas of the school and will explain to our pupils why this is important.

  • visitors, parents and carers should wear a face covering when entering the school or playground and at pick-up and drop-off. We also ask you wear a face covering at any busy pick-up or drop-off points outside school.

  • the national advice is good airflow within schools is important to minimise spread of the virus. As we approach winter and colder weather, we will make sure classrooms are safe, warm and comfortable. However, we ask parents and carers please provide warm clothing, such as a jumper or fleece, in colder weather. Please contact the school directly if we can be of assistance with this.

Cont’d…..

All of the above is in addition to the existing safety measures in our school, which follow the national guidance and are already of a very high standard. These include:

  • thorough cleaning within the school, very good handwashing regimes, physical distancing between staff and between staff and pupils wherever possible; and good hygiene when catching coughs and sneezes.

  • staggering breaks and lunchtimes, maintaining class groupings and good ventilation of buildings.

We would also like to remind parents and carers that all children should wear a face covering when travelling to and from school by school bus, unless they are exempt.

More information on what we are doing to keep schools safe is available on the council website, as is a guide to what to do if you suspect or have coronavirus.

We know the ongoing situation is very challenging for everyone, but we are doing all we can to keep our school safe, and maintain a welcoming and nurturing learning environment for pupils.

The response from our pupils has been fantastic and we cannot thank you and them enough for your continued support.

Please stay safe at home and follow the latest public health advice. If there is anything else you wish to discuss with us, please contact the school directly.

Reminder: register your 🧒 child for primary one before Monday 9 November.

If your child has their 5th birthday between 1 March 2021 and 28 February 2022, you should register them for school next week – and we’re asking you to do this online.

Go to www.renfrewshire.gov.uk/p1registration anytime between Monday 2 and Monday 9 November.

You’ll need to have a few things ready to upload:

1.   a copy of your child’s full birth certificate

2.   proof of address – Council Tax and Child Benefit Statement (or Driving Licence, utility/bank statement showing last 3 months transactions)

3.   Roman Catholic Baptismal Certificate (if applicable)

If you can’t register online, please phone your local catchment school to arrange an appointment. This is really important – please do not turn up at school without an appointment.
