P4/5 Book Week Scotland

Today, Primary 4/5 were learning about all different types of books: Fiction, non-fiction and Comics.

We started this morning by having a ‘blether’ with our groups at our blether stations.

We were discussing our different opinions and discussing what we like and don’t like about some fiction stories.

Have a listen to one of our groups during their discussions, they become very involved.

After break, we moved on to looking at examples of comics strips and discussing how they were very short stories told in pictures, but with added detail in the speech from characters.

We looked at examples from Wallace and Gromit and Peanuts.

As a class, we decided to create our own. See some of our examples below.

This afternoon, we merged our weather topic and our reading day to talk about non-fiction books. Mr Kerr showed the class a non-fiction book about the water cycle and how its rains, just like it had been all day today. We learned about all the meteorological terms for the different stages.

Mr Kerr then along with the class created an experiment showing how water evaporates and condenses of a cold surface. You can see our experiment below.

Can you see the condensation that formed? It became heavy on the cold plastic lid and formed a rain drop.

We reinforced our learning here by labelling all the different features of the Water Cycle.

By the end of the day, the entire class agreed… books are amazing in so many ways!

Anti Bullying Week 2020

This week we celebrate Anti Bullying Week in our school and across the nation. We are also marking one year since we launched our Joint Campus ‘Respect for All’ Policy which sets out strategies and guidance to promote equality and respect for all in our school community.

This week, we will share some daily reminders with you about our Respect for All policy. If you would like to read more about it, you can click here. As always, please get in touch if you would like to discuss this further.

*IMPORTANT INFORMATION* Launch of ParentsPortal for Annual Data Check

In support of Renfrewshire’s ambition to provide better communications between parents/carers and our schools, we are excited to launch Parentsportal.scot – an exciting new initiative which enables and creates a digital relationship between parents, pupils and schools.

The portal is designed to replace the ‘schoolbag run’, giving parents online access to a range of school-related services.  At the heart of the system, is a secure online account through mygov.scot which is referred to as a ‘My Account’.  This is already used in over half of Renfrewshire schools enabling parents to make payments online.

The first phase of the service will introduce basic information about your school and will allow you to link to your child and update your own, as well as your child’s details as part of the Annual Data Check process, that is now managed electronically.

As the portal develops, we look forward to seeing more services introduced in the coming months.

On signing up to the portal, you will be able to link to your child and gain access to the services which are currently available.  Please note this service is only available to Primary and Secondary children.  In order to link to your child, the data you provide during the sign up process must match the most up-to-date data that your child’s school holds.

Welcome Back

It has been wonderful welcoming back lots of our pupils and families over the last few days and we look forward to welcoming our P5 and P6 children tomorrow.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for supporting us in ensuring that the school is a safe place for everyone by adhering to all the new guidance. It is essential that physical distancing must be in place and we must remind you that anyone dropping a child at school should keep 2m from other households and staff at all times.

Please remember our new drop off and pick up times to help us reduce the number of people in the playground and give the pupils space inside to start the day with hand washing.

The children have all been settling in well and enjoying being back at school. A reminder that children will be outside daily for break and lunchtimes as well as for an increased amount of their learning time. Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather with sturdy shoes that will also suffice for P.E. (which will take place outside). Our relaxed uniform remains in place to accommodate this.

Just a reminder that packed lunches are available at no cost to all P1-P3 pupils. If you qualify, P4-7 pupils can apply for Free School Meals via the Renfrewshire Council website, Each day, pupils in receipt of lunch will have a choice of a Cheese, Ham or Tuna sandwich.
