Primary 2a enjoyed visiting the school library yesterday to choose books to read over the October holiday. They looked at the covers, titles and blurbs of the books before deciding. We hope you enjoy reading them together! Please return the books to school on Tuesday 19th October.
Hello! Your child will have gone home today with their homework jotter. At the back of their jotter you will find a Maths homework grid stapled/glued. Please read through these homework activities with your child. Every week your child should complete 1 activity. Homework jotters should be returned every Thursday.
After the October week holiday. Your child will receive spelling homework with a spelling grid attached to the front of the homework jotter. A letter will go out with this to explain how spelling homework should be completed.
P2/1 have enjoyed taking part in Maths Week Scotland this week. As the theme was weather this year, we revised the days of the week by writing in our weather diaries daily and made our own daily weather forecast reports. We practised writing our numbers when we made our own thermometers. Furthermore, we learned about directions when we made windsocks. It was fun testing them out in the playground!
“This is fun!” – Alfie
“I’m going to try and write my numbers in 10s.” – Maisie (talking about her thermometer)
“My windsock is moving! That means it’s windy.” – Tavis
This week we have no homework but please find some activities and games below to do at home to reinforce your learning. This week we are rvising our digraph sounds such as ‘ch’, ‘sh’, ‘th’, ‘ng’ and ‘qu’. Use the video below to go over the Jolly phonic songs and actions!
Reading CVC words!
Click on the link below to complete the live worksheet. Read the sentences and drag the correct CVC word into the correct place. When you have finished, scroll down and click the blue Finish button and your work will be marked!
P2/1 have been drawing their self portrait in class, including as much detail as possible. We followed this up with self evaluations in the Open area, where children identified what feature they liked best about their picture, and what they could improve upon. This was recorded on the ChatterPix kids app (on an iPad), enabling children to animate their picture with their voice. From the pictures below you will see that this video footage has been linked to a QR code on our displays. This will remind children of how fantastic their pictures are and how to improve them in future. We hope you enjoy the following videos, and would love to hear your feedback!
Today P2/1 tried something different at story time. We put on some trap/hip hop music in the background and rapped a story. It was tricky but fun! The children asked if we could do it again and put it on the blog so they could try it at home. Here is our second attempt.
Here is a reading challenge for you to do at home. Find a book that has a rhyming pattern that you have lying at home e.g. The Gruffalo, Rumble in the Jungle (anything that rhymes!) and read it following the beat to the hip hop track below! Give it a go. Now you are a reading rap star!Â
P2/1 enjoyed learning about African animals. The children used their observational skills, sketching skills and their knowledge of symmetry to complete these animal drawings. Well done P2/1, they’re fantastic!
This week we are going to revise some of the tricky words we learned this year. Group 1 and 2 will have the same words. Choose two activities from the spelling menu to practise your words.
