Grace Darling

As part of our seaside topic, we have been learning about lighthouses. This week, we learned about the true story of Grace Darling and how she helped to save passengers of a big shipwreck at sea. Here are some facts we have learned:

She was from Bamburgh which in in England. – Sophie

I like how her dad, William, was a lighthouse keeper. Just like Mr Grinling. – Chloe

I liked it because she saved the people and she stayed up all night and day when the storm stopped. – Ryan

I thought she was brave when she helped her dad save the people. – Adam

We were inspired by the story of Grace Darling and decided to paint pictures of the stormy night.

Spelling with Cheerios

We love doing active spelling in class as we use magnetic letters, playdough, pens to do bubble and rainbow writing. This week we used cheerios to spell ‘oo’ words! It was so much fun!

Maths Week Scotland!

We have enjoyed participating in Maths Week Scotland this week and have been exploring patterns. Some of the children have been using loose parts to create their own patterns. Today P2 and P2/1 were given a challenge to decorate a blank seaside bucket by creating their own patterns! They turned out to be brilliant, well done!

Maths Week Scotland

Primary 2 discussed their favourite ice cream as part of their seaside topic.  We then created a class graph to display what our favourite ice-creams were. Then we worked with a partner to create our own graphs.

Strawberry and mint came out on top!

Homework week beginning 29.9.20

Hello and welcome back to the blog. We hope you all had a lovely long weekend.

Jolly Phonic Revision

This week we are revising our ‘oo’ sound:

  1. Have a look around your home and garden. Can you see anything with the ‘oo’ sound? Draw and write them in your jotter.
  2. Click on the image below and it will take you to a large virtual version of the worksheet.  To complete the virtual worksheet, read the words and decide which spelling correct by clicking on the correct . When you are finished, press the ‘finish’ buttom at the bottom of the worksheet and the computer will tell you your score. If the link doesn’t work then just point to the correct word on the image.

Maths Week Scotland

It is Maths Week Scotland and we are very busy in the classroom! This week we are exploring patterns! We know that a pattern is  sets of shapes, numbers, letters, objects or actions that are repeated over and over again. Follow the pattern exercise video:

Click here to play some pattern games:

https://resources.hwb.wales.gov.uk/VTC/simple_patterns/eng/Introduction/MainSession.htm

  1. Can you make your own pattern? Use objects like buttons, pebbles, play dough, beads, toys, shoes, pencils, anything you have, to make your own pattern!

2. Number Pairs to 10!

We have been revising addition to 10. What number pairs do you know that make 10? Do you know any more? Watch this video to help you remember:

Days, Months and Seasons

P2 have been learning about days of the week, months of the year as well as the four seasons.
We have enjoyed reading ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ and discussing it together. We then wrote an interesting sentence about our favourite part of the story and drew fantastic pictures to go with them.
As part of learning about harvest we crafted some colourful scarecrows and spiky hedgehogs!
