- I can use a maths strategy to add my numbers.
Topic Learning Intentions:
- I am learning to listen for information.
- I am learning to write in sentences.
Topic Success Criteria:
- I can tell my grown up at least three pieces of information I have remembered.
- I can start my sentence with a capital, use finger spaces and end with a full stop.
Maths time!
Watch this quick video to remind you about what the + and = signs mean.
Below is a video reminding you of some of the strategies we have been using in class to help us add our numbers (counting objects, using a ruler as a number line, adding on in your head or using your fingers). You can choose to do the mild, medium or hot chilli sums in a jotter or on a piece of paper!
Topic
Listening
As part of our topic today, we will be exploring about what it was like to be a child working in Victorian Britain. Listen and watch along with an adult at home. At the end of the video they can ask you these questions below.
- Where was Mona sent to?
- What is a workhouse?
- How long did the children work underground in the coal mine?
- What sometimes happened to the boy chimney sweeps in the chimneys?
- What were children who had whooping cough given to help them?
Writing
Look at the pictures below. Choose one of the pictures and have a go at writing two sentences about the things you can see. You could even write some questions you have. As a chilli challenge, you could write more than two sentences or choose another picture to write about. Write your sentences in your jotter or on a piece of paper.
If you need some help here are some sentence starters for picture number five.
The tunnel looks….
The children look….
The children are not wearing any s____.
I can see a wooden d___.
If you aren’t sure how to spell some of the words you could try and sound them out yourself before getting an adult to help you. Once you are finished you can draw a picture of a child during Victorian times!
Here is an example below. I have written five sentences to give you some ideas but you only need to write two sentences.
(Answers to the video questions. No peeking until you have told your answers to a grown up!! How many answers did you remember correctly? Check down below…
- Where was Mona sent to? THE WORKHOUSE
- What is a workhouse? IT’S WHERE POOR PEOPLE WITH NO JOB OR HOME LIVE
- How long did the children work underground in the coal mine? 18 HOURS
- What sometimes happened to the boy chimney sweeps in the chimneys? THEY GOT STUCK
- What were children who had whooping cough given to help them? THEY HAD TO SWALLOW A SPIDER IN BUTTER
