Art Lesson – Still Life (Flower Challenge)

(Your task is at the bottom of this post)

What is Still Life?

Still life is simply a painting or drawing of objects. It is different from other forms of work in the sense that it cannot move (unlike a figure or a portrait) and is close to you (unlike a landscape).

When you paint or draw a still life, you will see things your own way. One person might be fascinated by detail, another might notice the shapes more and another person might be more interested in the colours.

Some artists famous for their still life work include, Vincent Van Gogh, Georgia O’Keefe, Henri Matisse and Paul Cezanne.

CHALLENGE 1:

Look at these pictures below. Choose 1 photo and draw/ sketch what you see. Look at the shapes, detail and colours. Take your time.

Challenge 2: Look around your home and gather some objects to create your own still life. Draw or paint it. We would love to see your creations. Tag us on the school facebook page @WBurghP with caption #P2stilllife

Friday Fun Spelling

Challenge: Remember our sounds this week are a_e and wh. Think of some words and write them down. You can use paint, chalk, playdoh to make the words or even lego, be creative. In class we do rainbow spelling, where we write our words in one colour and again on top of it with another colour, try it at home too! Another activity could be to write your words in chalk and then use a wet paintbrush (dipped in water) to go over the words. Get a plate or tray of shaving foam and use your finger to spell the words out! There’s lots of fun ways to practise your spelling, see the pictures below to give you some ideas!
Read the words below to help you if you can’t think of any.
