World Oceans Day is held every year on 8th June to raise awareness of the vital importance of our oceans and the role they play in sustaining a healthy planet. A global celebration, it looks to bring people and organisations together across the globe in a series of events highlighting how we can all help protect and converse the oceans.
We learnt about sea pollution at the start of Primary 2 during our seaside and sea creature topic. Thinking about plastic, what things can you do at home to help? Can you design a poster to show the importance of looking after our oceans? You can use any materials you want. Remember to make it clear and bold to get your message across to others.
Today in Paths we are going to go over kindness and respect. What does being kind mean? What does it look like, can you give examples? What do you think respect means?
Respect is when you treat someone fairly and make them feel cared for and important. Remember it doesn’t matter what someone looks like, how they talk or where they are from, every person is important and should be respected. You are important too and also should be respected! If more people respect each other then the world will be a kinder place. Think of and name all the people you show respect to.
Copy these sentences into your jotter and put in capital letters at the start and full stops at the end.
Good afternoon, did you have a good lunch? Let’s learn more about materials in Science!
Last week we learned that Materials are the matter or substance that objects are made from. We use a wide range of different materials daily; these might include:
Different materials have different features, or properties, which make them suitable for different uses. Some materials maybe more suitable than others for particular uses or for manufacturing specific objects; for example, metal shoes wouldn’t be very comfortable and a cardboard door wouldn’t be very strong!
is something that keeps water out. A plastic raincoat is an example of something that is waterproof.
Are you ready do be a scientist and do an experiment? Read the pdf file to help Winnie! Follow the instructions and write up your results in your jotter by making a table. Use the table below to help you. What was the best material to keep water out? What was the worst material?
Boats sail on the rivers,
And ships sail on the seas;
But clouds that sail across the sky
Are prettier far than these.
There are bridges on the rivers,
As pretty as you please;
But the bow that bridges heaven,
And overtops the trees,
And builds a road from earth to sky,
Is prettier far than these.
This poem by Christina Rossetti has 2 verses. A person who writes poems is called a poet.

Take a look at this power point which is helping you to understand the variety of different feelings we have, sometimes all in one day!
It is important that we learn to recognise and name our feelings, so that you begin to learn how to manage them. This could mean that you can stay calm when something makes you angry or you can comfort yourself when you are worried. As you begin to understand your feelings, you become better at recognising and empathising with the different emotions of people around you.
