Hello from Miss Kennedy and Miss Rai

Sound of the Week

This week our spelling sound is ‘oi‘. The sound ‘oi’ is made up of 2 vowels and  can sometimes be found at the beginning of a word but most of the time it is found in the middle of words.  Group 2 will also be learning to spell words ending in ‘ab‘. Our tricky words this week are ‘on‘ and ‘are‘.

Resource packs for remote learning

Your child’s named resource pack will be ready for collection from Monday 11th January from the main entrance door of the school. Please can this be collected as soon as possible, as these resources will be used to complement their remote learning.

Many thanks!

Christmas Kindness!

Last month we made Christmas cards for elderly people in care homes. P2/1 received a lovely phone call to say one our cards was received by a lovely lady called Mrs Keenan. She loved her card so much that she sent the class a box of chocolates. The children were shocked and surprised! The children had some special messages for Mr and Mrs Keenan:
“That was nice!” – Alex

“It was very good.” – Sophie

”That was very nice of her!” – Chloe

”Thank you for the chocolates, I hope you have a lovely Christmas!” Ryan

“Thank you and I wish you have a merry Christmas with your family.” – Noah

“Merry Christmas to you!” H

”Thanks for the chocolates, I can’t wait to eat them!” Robert

Outdoor learning and play

Session 8: Included

Today was our final outdoor learning and play session, and we focused on the indicator ‘Included’.

We brainstormed the meaning of this word, which included;

Letting friends play with us.

Nina suggested listening to our friends ideas and not laughing.

Ryan said when we are talking we should include others in our conversation.

Amelia suggested we could share our ideas with our friends.

We thought we could share our ideas and learning about the outdoors with Ms Cochrane and Mrs Vandal to include them too. The children did so, and they were so impressed, P2 children were presented with their own WOLPA (Williamsburgh Outdoor Learning and Play Award).

P2 children then all wrote their names on a bird house, to hopefully attract more birds to our garden and give them a home.

Session 7:  Respected

Today we focused on our seventh wellbeing indicator, ‘Respected’.

We brainstormed how we can be respectful to each other.

When outdoors, Rhyann observed the birdhouses Mr Wilson our Janitor put up in the trees. She said she thought the bottom treehouse was too low, and not safe for the birds as a fox could eat them. This was agreed by the rest of P2, so we problem solved and Mrs Mackey said she will bring her screwdriver out to our last session, and we can decide where to relocate this.

Tom had a great idea to make a home for hedgehogs using leaves and slate pieces he found last outdoor learning session. Tom, Ryan and Sophie demonstrated excellent collaborative work making this!

We reflected on last sessions story, the ‘Secrets of Winter’, and carefully investigated our garden to see if we could find any hibernating wildlife, and were careful not to disturb them. Ryan discovered a snail, and we learned from our story that in Winter, snails retreat into their shells and seal them shut until Spring, and this prevents them from drying out.
