We have enjoyed participating in Maths Week Scotland this week and have been exploring patterns. Some of the children have been using loose parts to create their own patterns. Today P2 and P2/1 were given a challenge to decorate a blank seaside bucket by creating their own patterns! They turned out to be brilliant, well done!
Hello and welcome back to the blog. We hope you all had a lovely long weekend.
Jolly Phonic Revision
This week we are revising our ‘oo’ sound:
Have a look around your home and garden. Can you see anything with the ‘oo’ sound? Draw and write them in your jotter.
Click on the image below and it will take you to a large virtual version of the worksheet. To complete the virtual worksheet, read the words and decide which spelling correct by clicking on the correct . When you are finished, press the ‘finish’ buttom at the bottom of the worksheet and the computer will tell you your score. If the link doesn’t work then just point to the correct word on the image.
Maths Week Scotland
It is Maths Week Scotland and we are very busy in the classroom! This week we are exploring patterns! We know that a pattern is sets of shapes, numbers, letters, objects or actions that are repeated over and over again. Follow the pattern exercise video:
Can you make your own pattern? Use objects like buttons, pebbles, play dough, beads, toys, shoes, pencils, anything you have, to make your own pattern!
2. Number Pairs to 10!
We have been revising addition to 10. What number pairs do you know that make 10? Do you know any more? Watch this video to help you remember:

P2/1 have been busy this afternoon making digital seaside pictures! We are learning how to use a computer mouse to select icon and to draw pictures on the screen. We were over the moon with our great pictures!
This week a homework jotter was given to your child. Please use this jotter to complete any homework tasks on the blog. This jotter should stay at home. Please do not return the jotter to school.
This week our sounds are ‘ee’ and ‘or’. Sing along and do the action.

Reading
This week week we are learning to use 2 new reading strategies: Sound Talk It and Don’t Forget Elephant.
When we are unsure of a word, as well as looking at pictures for clues and looking at the first letter or the word, we should also be sounding out each sound in the word. Also, we should be looking out for words we may have seen before. Keep revising tricky words at home:
READING TASK: Read and Draw
Read the following and draw. Use your reading strategies.
hen
ten
men
pen
The men went to the den.
Ten hens on a hill.
My red pen is in my bag.
Maths Homework
This week we are going over More than and less than. When we talk about 1 more than, it means we add 1/ go to the next number. If we talk about 1 less than, we take away 1 or go back to the number before. Watch the video and then answer the questions below:
Hello and welcome to our new P2 online homework page. Due to Covid 19, no formal homework is being issued that would require it to be returned to school on a weekly basis. Therefore, each week, homework tasks, videos and games will be published on this blog for your child in order to continue to reinforce their learning at home. Update: Homework does not need to be submitted electronically, as long as your child is doing the tasks and practising reading and writing their numbers and letters.
Sound of the Week
This week we are revising ‘ie’. Watch the videos below and choose at least 1 task to do at home.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzDimrhVZhA
Tasks:
Go on a sound hunt. Look around your home and write and draw any objects you find or think of that has the ‘ie’ sound.
Rainbow spelling. Think of some ‘ie’ words or use the list below to do some rainbow spelling. Firstly, pick a colour to write down an ‘ie’ word. Then choose another colour to go over the word. Choose another colour to write over the word again. You can keep doing this until you have used lots of colours! You can do this for tricky words too: the, and, he, she, I, my, we, be.
Reading
Revise your tricky words by playing the dino egg game:
In class we are learning to use reading strategies to decode unknown words. This week we are focusing on ‘Sharp Eyes’ and ‘Mouse the Mouth’. This is where we look at the first letter of the word and use the pictures to look for clues. When reading stories at home, encourage your child to use these strategies to develop their reading skills.

Maths
Last week we looked at multiplication. Remember ‘multiply’ and ‘times’ mean adding the same number again and again or ‘groups of’ a certain number. For example, 3 x 2 or 3 twos means that we add 2 three times, 2 + 2 +2 or we add 3 groups of 2 like this, ** + ** + **
Did you know that when you count in 2s, 5s and 10s you are reciting the 2, 5 and 10 times tables!
Here is the two times table. The answers are even and are going up in twos
Twiggle wants you to know that he misses you all very much! He said he did the Turtle when he was upset last week because he wanted to see his friends but he couldn’t. Remember when you are feeling upset, worried or angry to
Stop

Say what the problem is
I know it has been a long time since you have all been at school and you are missing your friends so much! Why don’t you write a letter to your friend or teacher? Or you could leave a comment. When you come back you will be big boys and girls in P3! Why don’t you write down or draw some of your favourite things you like to do at school or write down 3 things you want to learn about in P3 and keep it safe. When you come back to school in August you can show it to your friends and teacher!
Royal Queens
At the weekend it was Queen Elizabeth ii’s royal birthday. She turned 94. Write and draw what would you give her as a present.
Remember the Queen’s great-great-grandmother was Queen Victoria. What facts can you remember learning about her and the British Empire?

Maths
Use the 100 splat square to revise counting in 2s, 5s, 10s. Now try counting in 3s.
We took the number 5 and added it together 4 times. This is why multiplication is sometimes called “times”. You might see x in a sum. That means times or multiplied. Have a go at these sums. Use drawings, playdoh, buttons, pasta or other objects to put into groups to help you count and add.

World Oceans Day
World Oceans Day is held every year on 8th June to raise awareness of the vital importance of our oceans and the role they play in sustaining a healthy planet. A global celebration, it looks to bring people and organisations together across the globe in a series of events highlighting how we can all help protect and converse the oceans.
We learnt about sea pollution at the start of Primary 2 during our seaside and sea creature topic. Thinking about plastic, what things can you do at home to help? Can you design a poster to show the importance of looking after our oceans? You can use any materials you want. Remember to make it clear and bold to get your message across to others.
PAThS
Today in Paths we are going to go over kindness and respect. What does being kind mean? What does it look like, can you give examples? What do you think respect means?
Respect is when you treat someone fairly and make them feel cared for and important. Remember it doesn’t matter what someone looks like, how they talk or where they are from, every person is important and should be respected. You are important too and also should be respected! If more people respect each other then the world will be a kinder place. Think of and name all the people you show respect to.
