Grammar: a or an
How do you know when to use a or an? Well if the word that comes after starts with a consonant then we use ‘a’ e.g. a car, a horse, a shop, a pencil. However, if a word begins with a vowel then we use ‘an’ before it e.g. an apple, an elephant, an umbrella.
