Our Primary Seven were very excited today collecting and wearing their Leavers’ Hoodies! They couldn’t wait to show them off!

The Scottish Government’s ambition is for Scotland to be the best place to grow up. To achieve that we need to raise attainment and reduce educational inequity for all of Scotland’s children and young people.

Big thanks to Mrs. Retson, who along with 130 teachers and school leaders from Renfrewshire,  gathered for a Numeracy and Mathematics Showcase event at Johnstone Town Hall.

The Renfrewshire Attainment Team organised the event which included key speakers presenting examples on high quality professional learning,transitions and how to share work with family and community.  Great examples of  work from across our Renfrewshire schools was on display as well as lots of  ideas being shared with  colleagues on raising attainment in Numeracy and Mathematics.

Parents, grandparents and people from the community were  invited to come and see our pupils perform at our Rookie Rockstars Concert.

Rookie Rockstars was a four-day programme. The first three days involved the children  learning five original songs and some well known favourites. The whole school worked together.

On the fourth day, the songs were recorded live and then later mixed to produce a school CD. Pupils are also given an opportunity to design the CD artwork and the winning design will be printed on the final product.

The children really enjoyed dressing up and acting like real rock stars!

The Rookie Rockstars Primary schools Programme is an initiative that was created to give children the opportunity to work with professional musicians and singers to learn original songs, record a CD and perform in a concert.

Even our parents and grandparents got involved!

Sharon from Shelter Scotland came to our school assembly this week. She was presented with a cheque for £1152.00 from our pupil Oliver Robertson.

Oliver put his best foot forward to raise hundreds of pounds for a Homeless Charity. He made a commitment to run 2km everyday for 2 weeks to raise money to help the Homeless in the U.K.  Oliver’s family set up a JustGiving Fundraising page so that friends and family could sponsor his run in aid of Shelter Scotland.

Oliver was inspired to help the worthy cause after witnessing people living rough on the streets during the wintry weather. His original fundraising target was £50 but, within a week, he had already raised £1000.

Oliver isn’t used to running such a distance, so the charity challenge has been difficult. He feels really proud that he is helping so many people.

Each year, Shelter Scotland is a registered charity that helps more than half a million people who are struggling with bad housing or homelessness.

We had a fabulous performance from  Hopscotch Theatre Company  to celebrate the joy in Numeracy and Mathematics with ‘Heads and Tales’. Learning about money through Drama.

Storyline

Inchinnan Primary 1 – 4, joined Jack and Ada’s adventure into the world of singing coins and counting routines!

We met the Glamorous 20p from the roaring nineteen twenties; the 50p Kid, who has lassoed his way from the Wild Wild West and also there’s the Silver-slick 5p coin, who just loves to high-five!

These coins just can’t stop getting into mischief and singing their way out of mathematical problems! The children helped Jack and Ada solve everyday money scenarios and brush up on your numeracy skills in an interactive way!

Learning Themes and CfE.

Hopscotch’s ‘Heads and Tales’ covered many Numeracy & Mathematical Experiences & Outcomes as well as Expressive Arts. The characters in the show developed their numeracy skills alongside the pupils, in a supportive and creative experience.
