Our Citizenship Committee groups meet regularly with members of staff to identify areas of school improvement that they could lead.
This year our Library Committee staff lead is Mrs Hamill.
At our last committee meeting we talked about our plans for World Book Week and organising the author Shirley Husband to visit our school.
The Book Week was a great success. Shirley Husband came and the whole school enjoyed a storytelling session about the McCoo! She picked the winners for our Art Competition too. It was a very busy week and the committee worked hard along with Mrs Johnstone to ensure all the children had fun as well as stories for pleasure!
The children took part in quizzes, art competitions, sharing a story session as well as dressing up as their favourite character.
Congratulations to our school participants in the Summer Reading Challenge. They received a certificate during assembly. The Tesco Bank Summer Reading Challenge took place in all Glasgow Libraries from 25th June to 10th August 2018. The challenge was open to everyone aged 4 to 12 and there was also a special pre-4 mini challenge for younger members and wee sisters and brothers.
February 2018
At today’s meeting the library committee discussed options for World Book Day which is on 1st March. The children decided they want to dress up as book characters. They also talked about the possibility of having a short time during that day where older pupils will get the chance to read to younger pupils for a short spell. This will promote the ‘Let’s Share a Story’ initiative. National Book tokens will be given out on World Book Day as well as stickers. There is a possibility of a book quiz and design a book cover competition. These ideas have to be fully decided.
At the October meeting we joined together with the Playground Committee to share our ideas. We showed the lovely books that had been kindly donated by a parent. We have also written to Julia Donaldson in the hope that she may send us an ‘inspirational quote’ which we can display in our school library.
