Health / Travel Plan Committee 2022-2023

Our Citizenship Committee  groups meet regularly with members of staff to identify areas of school improvement that they could lead.

This year our Rights Committee staff lead is Mrs Derrick.

A school travel plan is a series of practical steps for improving children’s safety on the journey to and from school.

Cycle Friendly Primary School Award

The school has currently registered for the Cycle Friendly School Award from Cycling Scotland  to work towards becoming Cycle Friendly.  Cycling Scotland is a recognised Scottish Charity.

Renfrewshire Council Bikeability Coordinator meets with schools to carry out the award assessments.  They assess our cycle facilities and discuss what we are currently doing to encourage cycling as well as helping us to further embed cycling  in our school.

Bikeability Scotland is organised and delivered at our school by trained instructors. It can support the culture, ethos and environment of our school contributing to active travel and the independence, confidence and health of our pupils.

It also promotes active lifestyle and active and sustainable travel choices, as part of the Eco-Schools initiative.

Volunteers required….

Bikeability.scot are looking for parents, grandparents and other adult volunteers to help deliver cycle training in schools. Volunteers will work with our school staff to deliver Bikeability Scotland level 2 – a modern version of the cycle proficiency course.

The training is great fun and very rewarding.

How?

To volunteer, you’ll attend Cycling Scotland’s one day training course. This course if SCQF-accredited, with one point at level 5 awarded to all successful participants. The course is free!  After that, you’ll deliver training to pupils for approximately one hour each week for 6 – 8 weeks.

February 2018

We undertook a travel survey of our local area and counted the number of cars, bikes, buses and pedestrians. We found that cars are by far the most popular method of travel, followed by pedestrians.

January 2018

Lois and Connor fed back some impressive statistics to the committee, showing an increase in the number of people travelling without transport. We have planned to carry out a travel survey of the local area next month.

October Meeting

The Travel Plan Committee are trying to encourage all pupils to walk, cycle, scooter or park and stride to school. If they come in the car, they can complete laps of the playground! We are running a survey every Wednesday, with a prize for the class with the most people participating in our travel plan.
