Good afternoon everyone! I hope you are having a wonderful mid-term break so far. I am looking forward to hearing all of your stories. Here is a note of homework and reminders for this week.

Spelling:  There will be no spelling this week since it is a short week.

Reading:  Our reading homework is changing therefore there will be no official reading homework this week. I will go over these changes with you in class. You could use this extra time to continue with your Personal Reading Challenge.

Personal Reading Challenge: We now have 7 weeks of reading left. You have set yourself a personal target based on the number of books read last term and the aim is to reach it (or beat it!) before the end of term. Please remember to bring your book to school as this will allow you to read it during our ERIC sessions.

Please remember to record the books in your reading passport as you finish them. The passport is kept in class.

Listening & Talking: This term you have a solo presentation to complete. You now have 2 weeks to plan, organise and prepare your presentation as you will be presenting in class on Tuesday 28th February. Please click here to see the task sheet with all of the details required. If you require a paper copy of the task sheet, please ask.

Maths: Please complete the word problems for your group by Friday. I will go over how you should complete this task with you in class. A sentence answer should be given. Please use the links below to access your questions.

Your maths homework is being completed to a very high standard. Keep it up!

P5H Homework and Reminders – w/b 13.2.17

Good morning everyone, I hope you are enjoying your mid-term break. I’m sure you will have lots to tell us when we return to  school. This week is a very short week but as always we have loads packed into it. Please continue reading for your homework and reminders.

Spelling: Due to the short week there is no spelling homework this week. Normality will resume next week!

Reading: We are continuing with our novel study – Danny the Champion of the World. Please remember if you do not complete the reading you will be unable to take part in the class lesson. Please read chapters 13, 14 and 15 for Tuesday 28th February.

If there are words that you don’t understand please take a note of them in your Book Detectives jotter (remembering the page number) and, if possible, use a dictionary to find out their meaning . We will start our lesson by discussing them in class.

Personal Reading Challenge: Your challenge will be ongoing for the whole of this term (7 weeks of reading left!). I am delighted at the enthusiasm so many of you have been showing for this challenge, keep it up!! Remember to choose your books carefully to ensure they are at the correct level for you – not too easy or too hard. You can bring your book into school as this will allow you to read it during our ERIC time.

Listening & Talking: This term you have a solo presentation to complete. You are responsible for planning, organising and preparing your presentation which you will be presenting in class on Tuesday 28th February. Please click here to see the task sheet with all of the details required. If you require a paper copy of the task sheet, please ask me and I will arrange one for you.

Maths:  Again due to our short week there is no maths homework however, we will be starting our fraction topic soon and it is very important that you know all your tables as this will make working with fractions much easier. Please remember to access the Multiplication and Division Trainers for extra practice.

Here are your reminders for this week:

  1. Thursday is our fundraising day! If you are able to bring in any home baking please do so. This can be brought in on either Wednesday or Thursday morning. Once all of the other classes have visited, you may buy any cakes that have not yet been sold.
  2. Due to our fundraising activities there will be no P.E. on Thursday this week.
  3. For those of you who haven’t already done so, please cover all your homework jotters. This helps to keep your jotters in good condition.
  4. Some of you have already brought in an old shirt or tee-shirt to cover your uniform during our art activities. For those of you have not, we will be working on our River Clyde mural throughout the topic so it would be good if you could manage to bring one in. This can be left in school until the end of term/session if you wish.
  5. Please remember if anyone at home is (or has been) linked to the River Clyde in any way through work, we would love to hear from them. Please click here for further information.

Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend.

See you all on Wednesday.

Mrs. Hughes.

P5S – The River Clyde Wall Mural

Image result for river clyde

Today we started work on our wall mural. As part of our River Clyde topic we are creating a mural to show what we are learning. This will be an ongoing task that we will add to each week.

Today each group had the task of creating one of the landmarks found along the River Clyde. The Wacky Waverley’s (plus Mikey who we stole from The Fish Fingers for the afternoon) had the tough job of recreating the River Clyde. Once again I am a very proud teacher and am very excited about putting all your work from today together on the mural. You worked wonderfully together. We just need to work on making less mess!

Here are a few photographs from this afternoon. I will post updated photographs of the wall mural as we go along.

P5 – Our fish are growing!

Image result for brown trout

Our fish are getting bigger! All of our eggs have hatched and are at the next stage of their life cycle. Can you remember what this stage is called? How are they feeding? What will happen to them next? Please tell someone at home what you have learned so far.

Here are some up-to-date photographs of the fish today. We have a few cheeky characters who are being brave and swimming to the top of the tank sometimes but most of them are still playing it safe and staying under the stones.

P5S – The Song of the Clyde

On Wednesday 22nd February we are hosting the next Intergenerational Community Cafe. This will be a wonderful afternoon where you will have the opportunity to entertain some residents from Erskine Hospital and the Bishopton community.

One of the activities you will be involved in is singing the song below to our guests. We will be practicing in class however you will also need to practice at home too. Please access the video and lyrics to the song below. The lyrics are slightly out of sync on the video but don’t worry as I will give you a paper copy to use at home.

P5-7 Creative Construction Masterclass 2

Your challenge for this afternoon was to work with others to create the tallest tower you can from a maximum of 50 pieces of construction material.

Success Criteria

The model must:

  • Be able to stand on it’s own (not leaning against anything or being held up)
  • Use a maximum of 50 pieces (can be mixed materials)
  • Be creative (think outside of the box)

Who built the tallest tower? Did they only use 50 pieces of material? Did it stand on it’s own? Who learnt lessons from their first designs?

P7M Library Visit – Tuesday 7th March

Unfortunately we were unable to visit the library this morning as we only had one adult helper. We hope to visit the library on Tuesday 7th March, 11.15-12pm and are looking for another two adult helpers to accompany us.

These visits to the library should encourage enjoyment of reading and allow the pupils to choose their own books from a wider selection. They also help to keep the library alive!

Please write a note in your child’s Homework Diary or post a comment on the Blog if you are able to help. Thank you in advance and thank you to our core volunteers.

Learning about budgeting

Over the last week we have been learning about comparing different deals in money. We learned how to compare different prices using percentage discounts and how to stick within a budget.

We had great fun on Friday finding the cheapest deal for Miss Grant’s shopping! Today we decided to book a European holiday! We had to work through a small booklet with a selection of destinations, flight prices, activities and items to pack. Using a budget of £3800, we had to plan a holiday for two people keeping a certain amount of spending money by for the holiday! We all did very well and enjoyed learning how to calculate all the different sections of the holiday! We also remarked on how much different things were! I think we have a small idea of how much different holidays cost now! We hope you enjoy our pictures!

Engineering Project

We are lucky enough to be starting a new engineering project with Mr McAvoy. Over the coming weeks we will be working on building our very own car in teams that will be powered by battery! We will be practising skills in maths, technology, art, science, creativity and teamwork.

Last week a real engineer named Matthew came to speak to us about being an engineer. He told us about different types of engineering as well as what items we use that are engineered. He also bought in his own engineering uniform for one of us to try on whilst learning about safety equipment! We then went on to create a design for the car in our teams! We really enjoyed the afternoon and look forward to our next session. Matthew will be in at times to help us with our cars! We hope you enjoy our pictures!

P7M – P.E. Kits

Please remember that P.E. is part of the curriculum and you must come to school prepared for the two one hour sessions.

  • You must remove all jewellery or cellotape over newly pierced ears and cover any Smart watch or ‘fitbit’ with a sweatband.
  • You must bring a change of:
    • trainers (for indoor use)
    • t-shirt
    • shorts/tracksuit bottoms/leggings
    • hoodie (if going outside or you think you’ll be cold)
  • Your P.E. kit should be kept in a bag and either hung on your peg or put on the lunch trolley in the cloakroom (not kept in your school bag). This will avoid any delays when getting changed.
  • Monday P.E. 11.15-12.15:
    • Boys take their kits from the cloakroom after interval and get changed in the Boy’s Toilets. Once changed, put your bag of clothes in the Gathering Room.
    • Girls take their kit from the cloakroom and get changed in the classroom. Leave all clothes in the classroom.
    • Any bottles of water should be stored on the stage.
  • Once changed, please meet in the Gym Hall – sit on the bench.
  • Please move quietly in a single-file line through the corridors, to avoid distracting your peers.

If you forget a change of trainers, t-shirt or bottoms you will be marked as ‘No P.E. kit’ and not allowed to take part.

Thank you,

Miss McDowall
