Careers are endless for this subject but include: Architect, Graphic Designer, Car Designer, Textile and Fashion Designer, Interior/Furniture/Textile Designer, Product Designer, Photographer, Web Designer, Advertising, Animator, Set Designer, Lighting Designer, Make-up Artist, Film producer, Art and Design Teacher or Lecturer.

Art and Design is everywhere. Every job wants people who have a creative mind, can think for themselves and are good problem solvers. As Art and Design specialises in developing these skills; an Art & Design qualification could set you up for anything in life you put your mind to.

Week Beginning 8th March

CUBIST PORTRAIT PROJECT

This week, S2 will learn about the ‘Cubism’ art movement and look at the work of Pablo Picasso. Pupils will take inspiration from the Cubist movement and create their own Cubist Portrait.

Pupils should read the PowerPoint on Teams for full instructions to complete this project.

We are excited to see your Cubist Portrait!

THS Art & Design Team.

Week Beginning 22nd February

Trainer Design Project

This week, S2 are going to have the exciting opportunity to learn about trainer design as well as designing their own trainer.

Pupils will need to look at the lesson through PowerPoint. Make sure the PowerPoint is in SLIDESHOW when viewing it as there is a voice over that would be helpful for pupils to listen to.

This assignment will involve pupils learning and understanding:

  • What designers need to consider when making a product.
  • How to look at and understand what market research is for within the design process.
  • Considering design themes.
  • Creating their own trainer design.

THS Art & Design Team can’t wait to see your designs.

Pupils from S2 Art & Design have been creating COMIC BOOK COVERS for their Superhero Characters and Logos they had previously designed. Wonderful imagination and some serious escapism. Well done.

Week Beginning 25th January

SUPERHERO GRAPHIC DESIGN TASK PART II

This week in Art & Design, S2 will only be assigned one project as it’s a large project with a lot of tasks to complete. No additional homework will be set this week.

Pupils are asked to respond to a design brief and create an imaginative Comic Book Cover – incorporating elements from their previous assignment.

Their cover should grab the viewer’s attention by combining symbols, images and text to give visual information about their comic book, its characters and story. This project may require some online research which pupils should ask for permission for by a parent or guardian.

Their comic book cover must also contain:

  • Their superhero logo (created during their last assignment).
  • The name of their superhero (created during their last assignment).
  • Full colour – a tonal approach, black and white, is acceptable.

Pupils are asked to carefully read the Superhero Design Project (Part II) PowerPoint.

With permission from a parent or guardian, pupils could research different comic book covers alongside different font styles to influence their design. Following this, pupils should sketch some loose design ideas before selecting a final layout.

Their final Comic Book Cover should be on A4 paper and completed in full colour if colouring materials are available, if not, then black and white is acceptable.

Assignments are available on Teams and pupils should return their work by the set deadline.

SUPERHERO GRAPHIC DESIGN TASK

This week in Art & Design, S2 will learn about Graphic Design by working on a design brief: Design a Superhero. Pupils are asked to carefully read the Superhero Design PowerPoint.

Pupils will use their imaginations to create a unique name and origin story for their superhero (writing around a paragraph). Further, pupils will learn to combine symbols, images and text to create a logo. This project may require some online research which pupils should ask for permission for by a parent or guardian.

In addition to this, pupils are asked to complete a tonal study for their homework.

The Art & Design Department look forward to seeing their work and giving feedback!
