The Unsinkable Ship

We recently began our new topic of “The Unsinkable Ship” which is a topic based on The Titanic.

We decided to paint a picture of the Titanic for our wall display.

Symmetry

As part of our Maths topic on symmetry we searched for symmetrical objects in our classroom and in the outside environment around our school.

Science

This term, linked to our topic, we are learning about ice and what makes it melt.

We discovered that cold objects have slowing moving atoms and that warmer objects have faster moving atoms. When the two come into to contact the faster moving atoms move into the cold substance.

We used the recent snowy conditions to put this to the test.

The fast moving atoms from our hands transferred into the snow, causing it to melt.

P7 Rugby

primary 7 are in their final weeks of rugby with Ruaridh, from the School of Sport. They have been learning the rules of rugby and how to play but today they got to try out some tackles. This was a lot of fun and there was plenty of screaming and laughing from the children as they practised some different, fun techniques.

Fit Club

Some pupils from Primary 4 and Primary 5 chose to come to Fit Club every Wednesday after school. We have been playing lots of fun games to keep us fit and healthy and also completing circuits! There have been a lot of very red faces at the end of the club! We still have 3 more weeks to go and the children are enjoying choosing their own stations for circuits and games for warming up and cooling down.

Friday Funday

Last Friday we had a non uniform day and fun day to raise funds for our school. We started in the morning with a sponsored danceathon which Primary 7 led. Each class had a 20 minute slot to come and dance along with Cyber Coach. Primary 7 had great fun participating!

P6/5 Gymnastics

Good morning!

This morning, we were working very hard in gymnastics. We are getting really good at forward rolls, spelling our names with our bodies, mirroring our partners’ balances, bench jumping and springing onto a horse and then from the horse onto a crash mat, landing in the squat position. Now we are in I.C.T., blogging about how well we did.

Feast of St Blaise

Fr. Daniel visited Primary 7 this morning to tell them about St Blaise. His feast day is on February 3rd and he is the patron saint of sore throats and other ailments. Fr. Daniel explained to the children why this was and then we had a short prayer service and we had our throats blessed by Fr. Daniel.

This week is Catholic Education Week and the children will be focussing their religious learning on the Year of Mercy.

P6/5 Active Maths

We have loved learning about multiplication in Maths! We have practised these skills through the use of ICT and we have been looking at the patterns that exist in the times tables. We also realise that multiplication and division are inverse processes and we have sharpened our skills in multiplying problems using mental strategies. Here’s a peek at what we were doing.

P6/5 Science Investigation

We have been learning about Materials in Science this term and so decided to conduct an experiment about dissolving. We found that coffee dissolves better in boiling water, than warm or cold water, that 3 vitamin C tablets have a more explosive effect in water than 1 or 2 tablets, that icing sugar doesn’t dissolve as well as caster or granulated sugar and that jelly powder dissolves better in a larger volume of water. Have a look and see how we got on!
