Our Caterpillars have arrived!

Today our caterpillars arrived in primary 2/1 and we are all very excited. The pupils carefully filled vials with food then we transferred a baby caterpillar to each one. We are all very excited to watch them grow and hopefully in less than two weeks they will become chrysalides. We will keep this page updated with pictures of their progress.

Bikeability

Some of our P7’s continued with their Bikeability course yesterday. They were able to go out into the streets surrounding the school and practise their manoeuvres.

They used Barrie Place and Backbrae street and were practising signalling, turning and overtaking parked cars.

Next week they will go out to do a 4 mile lead cycle to finish their training.

P7 Transition

On Wednesday, Mrs Gallagher and some S1 pupils from St Maurice’s came to work with our Primary 7’s. They looked at the bible and completed a bible quiz in groups were they were able to win sweets for prizes. The children throughly enjoyed the visit and are looking forward to the next 2 weeks when Mrs Gallagher will return to do more transition.

P7 Novel Studies

Primary 7B have begun their new novel studies. They will be enhancing their knowledge of the 6 reading strategies whilst reading them. Each individual in each group created their own version of front covers for their new novel. Have a look at their designs compared to the originals!

Bikeability 2

Primary 7 began their second session for Bikeability yesterday. They are practising what it would be like cycling on real roads as this is something they will be doing in May. Here are some pictures from the session yesterday.

P7 Trip

Before the Easter holidays, primary 7 visited Summerlee for a World War 2 workshop. The children got a chance to look in the cottages, go down the mines and also have a play in the park! In the afternoon, they participated in a variety of activities linked to World War 2. They even got the chance to dress up! Here are some photographs from our great trip.

WW2 Homework

P7b have been working incredibly hard at home to create some 3D air raid shelters, similar to the ones in World War 2. I am so impressed with all their designs!

They were given a brief to ensure the shelters were waterproof, could hold a 1kg weight on top of them and could fit a lego man inside. All children met this criteria and we now have a fantastic display outside our classroom. Well done boys and girls!

WW2 Artifacts

Primary 7 were lucky enough this week to see some real artifacts from World War 2. Mrs Johnson’s friend collects things from the War and was kind enough to give us a box of items to look at. We saw a real gas mask – made by BMW, a field telephone, a camouflage jacket, binoculars, a water canteen, identity books and many badges and medals won by soldiers in the war. The children were fascinated by the items wanted to do further research on them.

Lenten promises

Primary 7b discussed why we celebrate Lent and what we could do throughout Lent to be closer to God. We decided to make a Lenten journey and plan how we could pray more, fast and give alms. We wrote our promises on footprints and put them on display to remind ourselves of what we should be doing during Lent.
