Hello Nursery Friends- Touch

The ladies were thinking about what the sense if touch really means.

We know we touch with our hands and can feel lots of different textures.

Why don’t you make a texture picture?

Look for and collect as many different things you can with as many textures as you can and make it into a touch picture or chart.

You might want to make a mystery touch box and put some of the different things you have collected into it.

Cover or close your eyes and try and guess what you are feeling.

It’s tricky when you can’t see something.

It helps when you think about all the words you know to describe textures and shapes, such as rough, smooth, flat, jaggy, crinkly, sharp and soft. We know you know lots of words for texture maybe you can teach your family some.

What is touch? What do we feel with?

We know we feel with our hands most of the time but did you know we can feel with all of our skin on every part of our body.

Why don’t you take your socks and shoes off and feel with your toes.

You could make a texture path to walk on.

Just put different things into tubs that your feet can fit into then put your toes in to feel the textures.

Remember toes are very sensitive and tickly.

Some things that are good to experiment with when touching are, gloop (cornflour and water) add food colouring if desired, shaving foam, jelly, grass, mud, sand lots of different everyday things with lots of different textures to explore It can be a bit messy but it’s so much fun.

Have fun touching and feeling. Love and cuddles From All the Ladies xxx
