P4/3 Monday 27th April

Good morning boys and girls. Let’s start with our morning prayer and a Hail Mary for all those who are sick or in need of a prayer.

I hope you had a lovely weekend, the weather was glorious.  My girls had their paddling pool out and we had such a lovely time.  I would like to read how you spent your weekend.  Write me a few sentences/short paragraph about your weekend.

Literacy

P3 Common words:

begin, follow, often, letter, woman

P4 Common words:

seven, seventeen, clothes, garden, yesterday

How can you break up these words?  Syllables? words within words? double letters?

Use your spelling strategies to practise the spelling of these words.  Use pyramid writing, rainbow spelling or flower writing.

Write a sentence for each word.

Read a chapter of your book.  Choose a character and write a character profile for him/her.  Draw a picture of this character.

Numeracy

Mental Maths  – use this link to complete a daily ten challenge of mental maths activities.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10

We will continue with place value, using resources available to you can you show me bundles of tens and ones.  For example in the number 34, there are 3 tens and 4 units.  Therefore show 3 bundles of ten and 4 ones. You can use spaghetti, pencils, cubes etc.

I would like you to be able to specify how many hundreds and tens and units are in a number. I have attached a worksheet for you to do,  I expect most of you to be able to state the tens and units, P4, I would expect you to be able to state the hundreds, tens and units in the numbers.

Place value 3 digits 2

Health & Wellbeing

Let’s think about our growth mindset.  Write a list of five things you are good at. Eg, football, dancing, singing etc.  Now, write a list of five qualities you have,  For example, what kind of person are you?  Are you caring, loyal, patient, loving, funny?  What makes you YOU?  Now, ask a parent/adult to write five qualities that you have.  Do they match?   How does this make you feel?  Self talk is very important to us.  It is not boasting or bragging if we say we are good at something.  It is important to have a healthy relationship with ourselves.  If we believe in ourselves and have healthy self respect then we have more to give other people. You are a kinder person if you love yourself first.

I would like you to practise positive self talk. Design a poster with the words “I am …”  Fill in the gaps.  Maybe it’s funny, caring, kind, loving, a good friend.  Hang this poster somewhere you can see it every day.  Seeing this will encourage you to be kind to yourself and talk to yourself in a positive way.

Have a great day everyone!

Mrs G 🙂

Primary 6 – Monday 27th April

Good morning Primary 6,

I hope that you had a lovely weekend and had the chance to enjoy the good weather.

Your spelling words for this week are words which contain “ow.”

arrow

narrow

sparrow

yellow

elbow

pillow

window

follow

hollow

borrow

sorrow

shadow

shallow

Copy them into your jotter and then practice them any way you choose.

Your spelling words, and some words from their word families, are also waiting for you on Sumdog.

Speaking of Sumdog, you have a Place Value Challenge starting today and there is some support work in the Grammar section to help you with your spelling too.

Here is Cressida Cowell reading Chapter 14 of, “How to Train your Dragon.”

Hiccup reveals his, “fiendishly clever plan.” After listening to the chapter try to break Hiccup’s plan into steps. You can number each step and draw a simple image to show what is happening.

Example,

Step 1: Steal feathers from the nesting birds.

Step 2: Steal every item of material that we can find.

Step 3: …..

And so on. Try not to include TOO much detail if you draw Baggybum’s hairy knickers.

You can send me your work at

gw09mcintoshdavid3@glow.sch.uk

I’ve also assigned you two new short books on Scholastic that you can read this week with quizzes about your reading.

You should also have received your GLOW log ins and passwords which means that you can use your own email address. If you didn’t get your log in, let me know and I’ll send it out to you.

Let’s start the week with some movement to get your body working again.

I heard a story about someone who set this workout to double speed so that they could do it in 10 minutes, but they burst.

After the Resurrection on Easter Sunday Jesus appeared to many people. One of those appearances is described in Luke’s Gospel.

Luke 24:13-35 International Children’s Bible (ICB)

On the Road to Emmaus

13 That same day two of Jesus’ followers were going to a town named Emmaus. It is about seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 They were talking about everything that had happened. 15 While they were discussing these things, Jesus himself came near and began walking with them. 16 (They were not allowed to recognise Jesus.) 17 Then he said, “What are these things you are talking about while you walk?”

The two followers stopped. Their faces were very sad. 18 The one named Cleopas answered, “You must be the only one in Jerusalem who does not know what just happened there.”

19 Jesus said to them, “What are you talking about?”

The followers said, “It is about Jesus of Nazareth. He was a prophet from God to all the people. He said and did many powerful things. 20 Our leaders and the leading priests gave him up to be judged and killed. They nailed him to a cross. 21 But we were hoping that he would free the Jews. It is now the third day since this happened. 22 And today some women among us told us some amazing things. Early this morning they went to the tomb, 23 but they did not find his body there. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels. The angels said that Jesus was alive! 24 So some of our group went to the tomb, too. They found it just as the women said, but they did not see Jesus.”

25 Then Jesus said to them, “You are foolish and slow to realise what is true. You should believe everything the prophets said. 26 They said that the Christ must suffer these things before he enters his glory.” 27 Then Jesus began to explain everything that had been written about himself in the Scriptures. He started with Moses, and then he talked about what all the prophets had said about him.

28 They came near the town of Emmaus, and Jesus acted as if he did not plan to stop there. 29 But they begged him, “Stay with us. It is late; it is almost night.” So he went in to stay with them.

30 Jesus sat down with them and took some bread. He gave thanks for the food and divided it. Then he gave it to them. 31 And then, they were allowed to recognise Jesus. But when they saw who he was, he disappeared. 32 They said to each other, “When Jesus talked to us on the road, it felt like a fire burning in us. It was exciting when he explained the true meaning of the Scriptures.”

33 So the two followers got up at once and went back to Jerusalem. There they found the 11 apostles and others gathered. 34 They were saying, “The Lord really has risen from death! He showed himself to Simon.”

35 Then the two followers told what had happened on the road. They talked about how they recognised Jesus when he divided the bread.

Imagine that you were one of those followers of Jesus that he appeared to on the road to Emmaus. Write about your experience that day and how it changed you.

Monday 27th April- Primary 7

Hello Primary 7,

It’s Monday again which means it’s time to get back to work. I hope you are all ready to learn.

Let’s begin our week by saying a special prayer to our Guardian Angel to continue to protect us and keep us safe,

Angel of God, my Guardian dear,
To whom God’s love commits me here;
Ever this day, be at my side
To light and guard
To rule and guide.

Amen

Here is a link for today’s learning activities-

Monday 27th April

Remember there is no right or wrong way to work when learning at home. Learning takes place in a variety of ways and I know lots of you have been working on developing your life skills which is so important and extremely beneficial in a time like this. Some of you have been painting, cooking, cleaning and helping out with younger siblings, I am very impressed. Keep up the good work! ❣️

I know how much you all love a competition, so why not take part in our road safety competition? Have a little look on St Barbara’s Twitter page to find out more details.

Have a marvellous Monday and remember if you need me for anything please do not hesitate to contact me.

Mrs Butler 😀

Primary 2- Monday 27th April

Good Morning boys and girls,

Happy Monday! It is a brand new week. I hope you all had a relaxing weekend, recharged your batteries and are ready for another fun filled week of learning.

Here is today’s work-Monday 27th April

Do not worry if you don’t manage to complete all set tasks, these are only suggestions! You can adapt them to suit your own needs.

Have fun, work hard and remember to take plenty of breaks throughout the day. If you need anything you can contact me by email; shreenann@st-barbaras.n-lanark.sch.uk

Miss Shreenan 🙂

Primary 1a 27/4/2020

Good morning, boys and girls. I hope you had a good weekend and enjoyed the lovely, sunny weather.

There are lots of new things for you to learn this week but I think it would be a good idea to start the day off with some exercises. Today I thought we could work out with Joe Wicks.  The lessons are called “PE with Joe” and they are streamed live on Joe Wicks’ You Tube channel at 9am, Monday to Friday.

Clipart Boy Exercise Did you enjoy that? Remember to drink plenty of water during and after exercising to keep your body hydrated!

Boys and girls remember that you can also go outside for some exercise. You can go for a walk, play on your trampoline, ride your bike or any other activity you choose.  But remember; you can only do this with people who live with you!

Number

Ok boys and girls we are going to start off today by counting and clapping to 30.

Now clap back from 30 to 0.

Ok. Now count on in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and see how far you can get.

Now practise your days, months and seasons.

I wonder if you could make a season wheel today?  All you have to do is draw a circle (you can use a plate, pot lid or anything round as a template).

Now, split the circle into 4 parts.  First draw a line from top to bottom through the circle. Now, draw a line from left to right through the circle. It should look like this:

Fraction Pie Divided into Quarters | ClipArt ETC

Now, you draw one of the seasons in each quarter of the circle and remember to think about what each season looks like! Think about the weather,  the clothes and the celebrations that go with each season. Here is one that’s already done to help you.

Fab Mums » Monday Crafts: The touchy feely spinning season wheel

The first number game today is really easy – all you have to do is identify numbers between 10 and 20! Here is the link to the first game.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/blast-off

Now you are going to practise counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. Don’t worry, there are pictures in this game to help you if you are unsure.  Here is the link to the second game.

Literacy

Phonics:

Boys and girls today I would like you to practise all your letter sounds and phonemes that you’ve learned so far.

Firstly, you can sing along with the songs and show your family the actions.

Here is a link to the site:

Rhttps://vimeo.com/106231366

Now, I would like you to practise writing each letter sound and phoneme and think of a word that starts with each sound.

eg: d = dog,    sh = shop.

You could play a game with your family and take it in turns to name something which starts with each letter sound.

Here is a link to a game which will help you practise your phonemes.  I’m sure you will enjoy it!

Reading

I would like you to choose a new book today.  Try to read your book but remember to ask for help with tricky words and use the pictures to help you to read.

Read your book 2 or 3 times.  Now, I would like you to be a text detective and look for your common words in your book.

Write down as many as you can find.

Now, pick 2 common words and write an interesting sentence with them.  Remember capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.

R.E

Boys and girls, some of you may have made a seasons wheel today so you will have been thinking about the 4 seasons.  Spring is my favourite season because everywhere you look there are new and beautiful things to see; baby animals, spring flowers, plants and little chicks.

Here is a power-point all about spring for you to watch and discuss.

-all-about-spring-powerpoint_ver_3 (2)

I would like you to say a little prayer to thank our Heavenly Father for the beautiful world he has created for us.

You could even write your prayer down and illustrate it with a beautiful picture.

Remember boys and girls, you don’t have to do everything!  Just try to complete as much work as you can.

I hope you have a great day,

Mrs Connolly.

Friday 24th April: Update

Good Morning Everyone!

I have really enjoyed looking at all of the pictures on Twitter of you working so hard this week. I have to say that some of the activities looked like great fun – you have certainly been very imaginative and creative!

You should all have your GLOW information and passwords now which means that you can upload your work and pictures onto the site.

Please enter the Road Safety Mascot competition – what a terrific idea for the school. You can find more information about it from Miss McMullen on Twitter.

I know that it’s Friday, the sun is shining and that we are all looking forward to the weekend!

So just before the weekend begins, let’s take a few moments to remember all of our fabulous NHS staff, all of the keyworkers, all of our wonderful staff, all of your parents and the adults who have been supporting you at home this week. We’ll also think about Fr. Campbell who has been saying Mass every day and remembering all of us in his prayers.

We also need to think about those who are ill in hospital and at home at present as well as those who have died in recent weeks.

We now need to remember all of you – our fantastic children – who have been working so hard in rather strange circumstances! Well done!

We ask God to bless each and every one of us today and to look after us all this weekend.  Together, let’s say a Hail Mary…

Hail Mary

Now! It’s Friday…the sun is shining…and you should know that when I was talking to Fr. Campbell earlier on this morning he suggested a, ‘Sneaky little extra playtime’ for all of you! What a great idea!

So boys and girls, treat yourselves to a slightly longer break this morning and don’t forget about Golden Time this afternoon. I think that you should all have an extra ten minutes – and all of the staff as well!

Stay safe this weekend – remember the sun cream and the hats!

Mrs McKinney
