Head Teacher’s Blog – Wednesday 15th February 2017

I hope you have all enjoyed the February mid-term holiday.

Today was Inservise Day 4 and an opportunity for staff to work together on Continuous Improvement Activities.

In the morning, all of the staff were using ‘How Good Is Our School?‘ to assess our progress to date in School Improvement and begin to plan for next year’s priorities.  There was lots of worthwhile conversation and an opportunity support staff, teaching staff and nursery staff to collaborate together.

In the afternoon, the nursery staff attended Early Years training run by NLC and the rest of the staff joined St. Patrick’s Primary and Dykehead Primary for an afternoon of maths development.  The session was led by Tom Renwick who is a Numeracy Advisor.  He spoke to us about the importance of Numeracy Fluency and gave lots of examples of how we can develop confidence and working memory in pupils.  This will be of great benefit as we lead forward our work in Maths Attainment this session.

Thank you to Mrs. Steel and the staff of St. Patrick’s for hosting the session and to Mrs. Donnelly from Dykehead for organising it. Another great example of the Shotts schools working in partnership.

Back at school, a new carpet was being fitted in the main foyer – it looks lovely.  I’ll share a wee pic tomorrow.

I’m looking forward to seeing all of the children back at school tomorrow and they are in for a special treat – we have M&M Productions coming in the afternoon to peffort ‘Treasure Island’ to P1-7.  P6/7 will also get to take part in a short workshop after the show.

Lunch will be early to accommodate the setting up for the show – 12pm-12.45pm instead of the usual time.

Mrs. Linfoot and Mrs. Parker are also looking forward to the next session of the Solihull Understanding Your Child course which will take place in the staff room.

We’re also gearing up for our Health Week which begins on Monday.  Don’t forget that pupils may wear their casual clothes for the entire week.
