P1/2 Join Authors Live

P1/2 have had a very busy week this week! As well as our usual work, on Thursday we tuned into a live broadcast from the BBC from a children’s author called Ed Vere.

Ed talked to us about the characters in his books before reading us some of his work, and demonstrating how to draw some characters.

We loved being able to join in, and I’m sure you’ll agree some of our drawings were amazing!

Transition Fun at Stane!

Our pre-school children joined us along with their parents and carers this morning for a fun filled filled transition session, as they get ready to move into Primary 1.

Parents and carers met with Mr Clark in the hall for an information session about starting school, while the children were busy with some activities in the infant area.

We listened to a story called ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ where the children enjoyed joining in with all the actions and sound effects as we read!  We had to wade through the long grass and splash through the river before crawling through a snowstorm and creeping through a dark cave!

We then went on our own bear hunt around the school.  We found a panda bear in the school office and some brown bears in Mr Clark’s office and outside the staff room! The boys and girls found out where lots of important areas of our school are as they hunted.

We were all great at re-telling the story using some mini figures and the water, mud, grass and ‘snow’ trays!

Afterwards the children joined their parents/carers in the hall where they all enjoyed a school lunch together.  Fish and Chips was on the menu and I think was enjoyed by both the children and the adults alike!

Zoolab Arrives at Stane Primary

The boys and girls at Stane Primary welcomed some very unusual creatures to the school today.  Anthony from Zoolab arrived with his mini beasts and reptiles to greet the boys and girls.

The children learned lots of facts about each of the friendly creatures which included: cockroaches, tortoise, bearded dragon lizard, a tarantula and a very friendly snake.  The children were delighted to get the chance to handle some of these fascinating creatures.

The primary two children were delighted to discuss with Anthony some of the animals that you may find in Africa which is currently part of their interdisciplinary learning this term.  The children were certainly educated, amazed and inspired.

Oscar’s Last Week in Primary 2

The boys and girls of Primary 2 said their final goodbyes to Oscar.

Quentin said that he is really going to miss Oscar.

David really enjoyed the day he got to take Oscar into assembly and Oscar liked the parts when Mr Clark gave out the certificates. Rachel loved the time she spent with Oscar in assembly too, she liked singing all the songs with him.

Oscar told Emma he liked making friends with all the other teddys in Primary 2.

On Oscars last day we had a teddys bears picnic which Aiden said he really enjoyed. Kenzie and Ben said their favourite part of the picnic was when we were playing musical ‘bears’. Lewis enjoyed bringing in his own teddy bear ‘Toothless’ and Oscar enjoyed playing a game of ‘tig’ with Toothless. Bethany and Jack enjoyed getting to know all the other teddy bears including Toothless.

Rosemary and Abbie enjoyed helping Oscar keep healthy by making sandwiches. Jonathan gave some of his sandwich to his teddy bear who said it was delicious.

Kati and Sophie loved to give Oscar lots cuddles.

Primary 2 thank Oscar for visiting us.

Teddy Bears Picnic!

The children from the nursery, p1/2 and p2 all enjoyed having a ‘Teddy Bears Picnic’ in aid of St Andrew’s Hospice. The boys and girls all brought along a special guest, their favourite teddy and enjoyed having sandwiches, crisps, a biscuit and some haribo together. All the children really enjoyed the picnic and i’m sure the bears did too!
